d4 chain tensioner on lh head of engine
Hi all
Help needed .....helping doing a manifold drivers side what a job to get off .
Have got it off but now have another issue cam chain plastic guide rail on top of tensioner has broke only small bits but mite as well be a brick ammount ....
Can this be bought on its own /can it be change by de pressing hydrolic oil pressure shaft and sliding off broken guide ....
Or is it a new unit with tensioner shaft with plastic guide on top ......if so can it be done without loosing cam settings as they are ???
Turned into a world of mess .
cheers all

Not as big a mess if the chain had eaten through the rail and met with the tensioner!!
So you're still in the game, and if you hadn't found this it would very soon be all over for your engine.
So the question here is on which bank of cylinders has the tensioner failed? You can't get the tensioner and rail under the chain without cam removal, and if it's the left side bank that means a whole lot of pain as the exhaust cam drives the HPFP pulley! Some have tried cam removal with the pulley still in situ, (no special tools) but this risks misaligning the rear seal and if that happens you'll have to do it all again!
If it's the right side it's a bit less fearsome as you don't need special tools to tighten any rear pulley, but, the brake vacuum pump will have to come off to release the exh cam, and that's a to get at.
I'm just wondering if it wouldn't be easier to just haul the engine out and do all the chains and other bits that way. A bit more work but you'd have the access and can see clearly it's done correctly and quickly too! yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Don't waste your time (and your engine!!) with glue. There's only one way to fix this properly and that's to fix it properly.
Anything else is a bodge and it will bite you very hard when it fails completely.
The drivers side is less of a faff for sure, but even if you repair that you'll be left wondering about the other side!
A lift is always helpful when removing the engine but it has been done by removing the front panels and extracted the traditional way.
These chains need servicing after 150k miles in my opinion. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
