D4 blue smoke.

Ok yes I’ve read quite a few posts about blue smoke and the turbo drain mod so…..

I did an oil change a few weeks ago and all the bumf I’ve read said the D4 took 5.7ltrs but I added a 5ltr and an extra 1ltr making it 6ltrs.

Now before I did the oil change I have never seen any blue smoke on hard acceleration but since I now see on every trip out a puf of smoke.

So……….

Have I added too much oil?

Purchased the turbo drain kit (pipe and blank) and looking at changing the pipe but I don’t have any big ramps.

Following this as a guide: https://www.landrovermonthly.co.uk/article...rbo-drain/

Can this be done off the ground if I get ramps?
Is the extra 0.2ltrs of oil an issue?
Anything I can check first like split pipes etc?

Advice needed as I’m no mechanic but will do what I need to get my car going.

Regards all.

Perhaps a bit obvious I know, but to answer the question you asked ' Have I added too much oil) I would have to ask how much oil you removed before you put in 6l of oil. I would also ask if your oil level is showing overfilled?
Hope you get to the bottom of it.

I removed just under 6ltrs and replaced with a bit more because the reading on the dash was showing half full hence why I added a bit more.

Yes didn’t think of that way round it but found a local garage that rents its 4 tonne lift for £50.00 all day so I might go for that.

You can always check the oil level with a dipstick Shocked

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/emergency-d...t=Dipstick
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

On Saturday I’m going to change the turbo pipe as above and while I’m at it clean out the cooler.

What else can I check while I’m under the car?

If you look at the info you’ve posted the change point is you doing an oil change. It’s always been the case that you do not put more than 5.9 litres of oil in these as it causes smoking. I would advise you suck out say 0.5 of a litre and give it a road test before getting ahead of yourself with other repairs.

IIRC even when the dash oil display is showing 1/4 full it takes less than a litre to top up from that ??

When i had my D4 it was booked in for a service within a month of the oil showing that level so I didnt top it up.

Well had it up on a 4 poster ramp and the pan bolts was all rounded off, nightmare.

So I decided to find a garage to do it for us and save the bloody hassle.
