D4 Bespoke Floor...
Well I've been keeping myself busy during these dark Covid winter nights with a wee project.
Finished making my bespoke sliding floor for my D4 and installed some extra lighting on the inside of the upper tailgate for extra illumination of sliding floor during these winter nights.
All brackets and finishes are Aluminium and the flooring is 18mm Hardwood Ply.....the heaviest part.
Works a treat and fits like a glove. There is appx 100mm between the sliding floor and the original floor where I now store Jump Leads, Tow-ropes and brollies etc. within shallow plastic trays.
A bit of hard thinking and measuring all from scratch but I got there in the end.

Great job. Maybe you can source some aircraft honeycomb flooring at 3.8kg/m² & swap the timber if desperate to reduce weight.Visitor - Freelander owner

I had a look at a few options but from what I could see, the timber was the most cost effective....though obviously not the lightest.
I need to speak to my brother I think and see if he can get me some of that aircraft grade flooring......He's in the RAF.

That looks like a great job!!
Can I ask where you sourced the runners for it to slide out? I need some for a different project, only about 1/3 of the size.. 2005 Disco3 HSE Auto 😁

Sorry, another question.. it was only tonight whilst putting sons hockey gear in the back that I thought tailgate light would be useful.
Could you share how you fitted said lights?
Thanks in advance!2005 Disco3 HSE Auto 😁

Here is a link on E-Bay for the drawer runners....
I have wired these lights to the interior courtesy lights so they come on when doors are opened. I had to remove the tailgate plastic panel and cut rectangular holes to fit lights and remove side tailgate trim and run wire from rear most light in headlining above boot floor to newly installed led lights in tailgate. Fairly straight forward.........just hassle removing plastic trim carefully as not to damage clips.

Pretty darned good. Is it reasonably easy to remove, on the off chance that you need to use the rearmost seats or get that American fridge freezer in the back?

Yes....it's easy to remove as it's only 4xM8 bolts located in what was originally the tie-down bolt locations. If the flooring I had used wasn't hardwood Ply, it would be even easier.
As far as loading an American style fridge freezer goes....I think I would just hitch my trailer up.
