D4 Belt Tensioner Problem |
|
I had an intermittent "groaning" noise when the car was driven from cold. It's been there since the car was around 6-9 months old and has been looked at at the annual services but nothing on diagnostics and not getting any worse so just advised it's ok to leave it.
Anyway, finally got fed up and took it back to dealer as I was also greeting an intermittent height sensor problem on the 4x4 screen during the warm weather this year. Dealer has diagnosed a belt tensioner so they have replaced the tensioner, pulley and belt. Apparently, the height sensor problem was related as "they're part of the same circuit". Any ideas what tensioner may be at fault and any precautions that need to be taken ?

Apologies for the delay but I had a wrist injury which made it impossible to type ! The answer was it was an "idler pulley" if that makes sense to the techies. It's made the noise better but not eliminated it completely so any other ideas are welcome. 2010 MX-5 2.0 Sport Tech PRHT

I think you need to change Dealers, the auxiliary belt tensioner is purely a mechanical device and has nothing to do with any electronics.
