TBS, I’ve disconnected for a few long stretches, recharged the battery & she (D3 and D4) was fine. Only thing to check is that the emergency door lock in the passenger door works fine otherwise you’re locked out. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

If you do change the battery yourself, you need an IID tool to reset the Battery Management System.

DSL - thanks …...I'll check the emergency key / door lock tomorrow - top tip Thumbs Up

Gary - I don't have (or have access to) an IID - I had heard that the BMS just "works itself out"?????
What are the implications if it doesn't?

Where are you measuring battery voltage?

Battery +ve to body/engine? Have you checked the earth straps ?

Ref BMS reset.
I’d also like to know what happens if you don’t do it. I don’t have an IID either and wondered whether I too can swap my own battery when the time comes (battery now 5 years old).
Cheers

To be honest, measuring directly across the battery terminals.
I'll check tomorrow across the battery, then compare battery +ve to engine.

Assuming all is 'normal' I'll probably then take out the battery and stick it on a 'repair' charge from the Noco - it advises to remove battery to do this to protect 'sensitive electronics'

By the way, the Noco instruction manual advises to only run repair mode on Lead-acid batteries - from what I've read (5minutes on Google Embarassed ) AGM batteries are still classed as lead-acid......SOMEBODY PLEASE STOP ME IF I'M WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I'll take my chances on the BMS when the battery reconnected Confused

My CTEK charger has a warning it’s for Lead Acid only and it has an AGM setting so I wondered the same thing. From reading the WWW, the AGM is the same but the acid is absorbed into the glass material instead of being in pockets.

If you don’t reset the BMS it won’t effect the car. It only shuts things down such as Audio in an effort to prevent the battery draining to point where it can’t start the car. I believe the BMS learns how the battery is performing with the idea of it adjusting for the battery becoming older, however it works both ways so should learn that the battery performance is improving (improving as it doesn’t know it’s a new battery).

I should also add that the BMS can also help optimise how the battery is re-charged by the alternator.

Did you ever try the repair mode - I'm having similar battery issues Whistle

FWIW I believe you should NOT run a recondition mode on AGM batteries. It's designed to fizz the electrolyte in wet batteries by applying higher than normal voltages. There isn't as much electrolyte in an AGM battery to fizz.

Hi D4mation
If you are referring to CTEK recond mode, I asked the question about whether this can be/should be used to CTEK customer support.
They informed me it does nothing for an AGM battery but also doesn't harm it.
Cheers
