D4 2010 Power steering problem

Well after 25k miles I guess it's about time I had a technical problem...

I have a power steering problem. It is an intermittent heavy/normal feel to the steering wheel when turning, when it's heavy it is only for a second at the most then it's normal again. It can be just when you start to turn the wheel or at any point from centred to full lock but only for a very short period so it feels sort of lumpy rather than always heavy.

The fluid level is perfect and there is no sign of a leak anywhere.

At first I thought the pump but then thought that it would either work or not work and normally it would just throw hydraulic fluid everywhere.

Any thoughts?

Well, turned out to be the lower UJ on the steering column binding, so relatively cheap fix 8)
