D3 wing mirror replacement (complete unit)
Hi all, I'm new to D3s, only had series and Defender up to now, but the guy I brought my D3 from has broken the passenger side wing mirror, glass is ok but the shell is beyond repairing and upon investigation the metal internal frame is also broken, so it's a whole new unit.
Looks like I need to get the small speaker and it's mounting off that's inside the car to get to the bolts. Is this right and does anyone have any tips before I get in there and scratch the finish trying to do it.
Ps I'm a former tankie in the Army, we would fix most thing with a hammer and 19mm spanner, so I need to be gentle with it.

Gently prize the little speaker housing off and all will be revealed. Thats the easy bit, transferring the mirror glass to the new/used mirror unit is another matter. I think the clip arrangement must have been designed by some sort of vindictive lunatic!
Easy enough if you've a good collection of expletives.

My worry would be unnecessarily scratching the paint getting the speaker housing off and if I need to replace any fixing clips holding it on (I also have an Alfa Romeo, yeah I'm a glutton for punishment, where all clips seem to be single use).
I'm gonna have to replace the mirror anyway as it's mounting clips were also broken.
There's a reason I was able to haggle the price down lol
The mirror, front pdc fault, and the bottom bit of plastic trim missing from both front doors

Actually, ive just remembered, you need to pull the top of the door card off to get the bottom of the speaker off!

She's going to the garage then.
Hate doing things where I'll be driving along glancing at it, knowing I fixed it, but left a scratch or tear on some interior trim.
As I said, former tank driving and mechanics instructor, fix it with a hammer

You might as well get used to the route, you'll be doing it often enough with a D3!

Pffffft
Obviously you've never owned an Alfa Romeo, makes Land Rover look reliable.
Beautiful cars, but buy shares in the garage.
Used my neighbours garage, whenever I would phone up, I could hear him umming and ahhhing about any engine repairs, 147 GTA, a 3.2 liter V6 cramed in a hatchback, leaving no space to work.

Thats true, you can get at just about everything on a Disco... If you lift the body off!
Actually though I think you're right, an Alpha would just about edge it.

I tried to get the little speakers off when stripping the mirrors of Dark Bluie. I might have been a bit ham-fisted but gave up trying to get the mirrors off without taking off the speakers by force.
