If it makes you feel any better, it maybe didn't take me 4 hours but there was a lot of hammering to get the old one off. A LOT of hammering.

I removed the sensor 1st then realised it didnt need to be removed. On my p38 it has to come out or it get ruined....hayho

Caliper bolts?
Before I set to it this weekend what is required to remove the odd shaped carrier bolts?
Appropriately sized socket?

For the front carriers, 21mm bi-hex socket...probably the 21mm socket you have in your set unless it's an impact socket.
15mm bi-hex for rear carriers.Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Job done
1Hour & 20 mins ( no tea break).
Super tight bolts but Iād been spraying them every 2 days with WD40.
After I was thinking could you put the bolts in from the wheel side once you have created a gap between the hub and the face it sits on, slip a thin piece of sheet metal in the gap & use 2 opposed bolts to push the old bearing assembly off squarely?
The problem of having to hammer it off is only really having access to one side.
Just a thought š

Wish I had you guys confidence doing such mechanical work. Both my front bearings need replacing. You make it look so easy.
I will stick to fighting cyber crime and incurring the wrath of my wife for paying loads of money out to stealers for doing the job.

1st time I replaced the front wheel bearing it took me 3 days and two swear boxes. Last time handed it over to Mike in Dundee. 20 minutes from wheel off to wheel on. Know where the next one gets done. As an aside he replaced one of the rear wheel bearings which included total refurb of dirt shield and upper and lower bushes. Two hours total. Once you have defeated the idiots any job is half done. Pity there are so many idiots to defeat.

Anybody recommend a cheap but decent mechanic in the Leeds area.
It has to be cheap to get through the wife test. She said to me yesterday 'why dont' you trade yer Disco in for one of those Audi A6 estates you like'.
Ermm because I'd rather spend a grand on getting my bearings sorted, gearbox oil flushed, wheels aligned and air con fixed and happily drive around in my 13 year old car that I love.

I used hub pullers, came out like a treat.
