d3 v8 versus disco 4
Debating whether to replace my 54 plate D3 v8 for a disco 4, love the v8 and changing to a diesel is a big worry especially when I hear some of the engine woes but they do look good.54 disco 3 4.4 v8 now gone

that's true mogwyth, probably stick with the v8 i'm just concerned with the mileage reaching 155,000 reliability might be an issue.54 disco 3 4.4 v8 now gone

Mines at a similar mileage, just had a coil go, so would expect more to go soon, keep a spare in the car now. I think our American cousins say they are quite capable of mega mileage, if looked after. In fact a quick Google reveals the Aussies suggest 300,000 miles plus should be achievable.==================================

that's massive mileage but good to hear, I must admit I'd be sad to see it go as its so smooth and still an awesome vehicle although I do spend quite a lot of time in the filling stations!!54 disco 3 4.4 v8 now gone

I have friends with D3 V8's with over 200k and still running smooth. Get a BG fuel, induct and intake cleaning done. This cleans the carbon in the engine. Majority of the used D3's on Craigslist, eBay or being sold cheap in the US have about 180k to 200k plus and are still running. Only heard of two catastrophes 1.From not changing the oil or pvc. 2nd from over-heating it and needing head gaskets at over 200k.
Keep the V8 just upgrade the front if you like the D4 look. Our D3 specialist in LA from his experience considers the V8 4.4 more reliable then the 5.0 V8 on the D4.

I think youre right dave, I need to sort the pvc valve, its had regular oil changes and never been mistreated in its life so I'll stay with the v8. 54 disco 3 4.4 v8 now gone
