D3 unbeatable
Just back from a weekwend in North Wales during which we visited a new off-road site (OTT Adventures). Having taken some flack in the run up to the event from some 'alt.fan.landrover' forum members who were slating the D3 claiming a Series 1 Land Rover was better off-road, I took great delight in proving my point as my D3 was the ONLY truck to make it up the steep slippery hill A Defender 110 got nowhere nor did a Series Land Rover or indeed an ex MOD 101. If anyone has seen the Top Gear clip with Clarkson at the top of the mountain in a D3 that was what I felt like, it was awesome looking down at the others failing the climb
Not slating old landies as I love them but the D3 is incredible, the purists may not like them but there is no doubt that things have moved on and the trerrian response system is superb. Looking forweard to more!2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

The hill was very deceptive, it was incredibly slippery and the camber was quite awkward (left to right as well as uphill), the MTR's were awesome and played a major part in getting me up, I doubt I would have made it on road tyres!

It was a great feeling, problem was I couldn't risk exploring the rest of the site as no-one else could get up the hill, if I had got stuck up there it could have been interesting!
The 110 got this far then the lack of locking diffs and ETC meant he had to go back !
You certainly have no excuse for getting lost ....its on its way

The "pureists" (hope sp OK!!) might whine about it not being a "real" landrover but you can be offroading one day & doing a several hundred mile high speed belt up the country next. Can't do that in a Series LR without booking a physio appointment for day after!

We stayed in Llanberis but the off-road site was on Anglesey. However I would not recommend the site at all. The shots I posted were the only bit of the place that was anywhere near accessible to a standard 4x4, the rest of the site was just a wood and a swamp where they do paintballing and tank driving. Unless you had a highly modified motor and were not bothered about major scrapes and damage the site was a no go. We ended up with a refund as it was just not driveable. At one point a tank was stuck up to its waistline in the gloop The owner knows nothing about off-roading but is trying to get the place established but he has a LOT of work to do!2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto
