D3 - RR Sport.

I understand the two vehicles share the basic chassis and running gear?
Is the RR any lighter? Does it sit lower on the road? Do they handle any better at speed than the D3 does on bends please?

It’s a ‘sport’ so the bushes are stiffer etc to tighten the handling up. I’d imagine anti roll bars etc are different also.

I never expected my D3 to be a sports car but sometimes the cornering leaves a bit to be desired.
I’ve had all manner of large 4 wheel drives in the past and almost all cornered flatter and better than my D3.
Have had all the suspension done over the years. Just had a new compressor fitted. It’s an old one with 200,000 plus miles but I think it wallows a bit. Wondered if a RR sport might be a better car when it’s time finally arrives.

My experience is that my D3 (also 200k miles) drives better than most other cars of that size.
Having driven other D3s is why I got one for myself

Obviously it’s a very heavy, high centre of gravity vehicle, but relative to the other “similar” vehicles I’ve driven I always thought my D3/D4’s handled surprisingly well. Especially the later D4’s.

The RRS also has the ACE (Active Cornering Enhancement) system which helps prevent roll when cornering... just more to go wrong and expensive when it does Whistle

RRS has a shorter wheel base
No so long (the boot isn't that big)
Not so tall as D3
Therefore it will be a bit lighter.
Suspension height is different, but probably not a lot.

RRS suspension is slightly more sporty

Scotland 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Auto Cairns BlueDiscovery 3

Stiffer bushes
Stiffer dampers
Stronger ARB's
Shorter, so weighs less
Lower profile tyres
Lower ride height

All in themselves, very little differences, but added together, make a big difference to the overall handling

And then ARC was fitted to later cars, which helped further improve the handling

I found this comparison helpful when deciding to keep my D4:-

The boot capacity was the critical point.

there's a few that have had/had both

In terms of handling the D3/D4 is a bit of a wobbly box compared to a late l320 sport with the dynamic handling elements.
The only downside to the sport is the stupidly low profile tyres as standard but that's easily remedied.

As a car the l320 sport (late model ones) are much superior to the l319 disco.

As a load hauler for multiple passengers or large objects the Disco wins

Off road they can be about the same with comparable tyres

Hi,

Mikey sums up the ride differences well Thumbs Up

but no one has mentioned its what they feel/look like from the drivers seat that is quite a bit different,
try them both and see what you like the best?

SWMBO does not like the Disco inside Shocked
which is why we have had 1xD3 (2007) and 3xRRS Laughing (2006/2010/2016)

can not remember about the 2006 but 2010 & 2016 both had active locking rear diffs as well 8) Whistle
