OK. And what is your firm? I'm hoping to get it down to £400 max with minimum excess.

Dont know how old you are, but this year I went with the Post Office over 50's policy, and it was below £200 with business use. Man with no D3 anymore, but cant leave the forum....how sad.

I did to comparison sights, actually have to do it every year - Admiral won last time at £280 or so fully comp full NCD.
So worth spending a couple of hours researching, as you‘ll gain in the end Iggy/Ieuan

Admiral won for me this year for the second time running.
Much cheaper than anywhere else for very comprehensive cover.

Cheers all of you.
I'll have to do the comparison thing as per usual but I'll keep certain ones in mind that have been mentioned.

Land Rover Insurance, not the cheapest but mods and off road use are not an issue.
Had a claim, no messing about.
All genuine parts - new bumper for me.
Read the small print carefully and check online reviews for underwriters - some so called specialist 4x4 policies that are cheap have poor ratings. Tony

Quick question about insurance renewal. Been through comparison sites and a few companies direct but if I enter under modifications it's had a remap that seems to increase the premium. In the event of a claim how can you tell if a remap has been done?

The reality is they would probably only check in a serious accident especially if there was speed involved or someone died. If you have loads of other modifications then again they may check.
One thing to remember ignorance isn't a defence, I know many people selling cars don't mention they are remapped because it can give the impression it's been thrashed so there are probably loads of people out there driving remapped cars and don't know. The fact you didn't know won't make any difference.
The thing you need to be careful of in this modern age is they all share data so if you continually put remap into quote sites then it may prompt them to do something if you sign up without it.
With regard to the OP we are with Directline on all but one of our cars because of the level of service, you always speak to someone in the UK who knows exactly what they doing.
We did go to Admiral for enough time to get the documents which were wrong on every policy, when I phoned them I got someone in India who couldn't understand what I was saying then said I had to pay to amend them even though I had made my requirements very clearly when I signed up. I closed the policies there and then and went back to Directline.
When I had a foreign driver hit me head on the service Directline provided was second to none, they allowed my wife to deal with everything as I was in hospital. They have always been very fair on the settlements too. IID PRO

Here's the heavy bit - failing to disclose any relevant modifications on a vehicle is potentially fraud. And it is definitely fraud if the intention is to reduce your premium, see s.2 of the Fraud Act 2006.
As armalites mentions, the industry has multiple databases of info to combat fraud, and you do not want to end up on a blacklist as ultimately you could find it extremely difficult to get insurance at all. Common scams kids having a car but mum or dad taking insurance with kid as named driver despite kid being primary user. Or registering it to an address cheap - Norwich is popular with people who live in London. Police are wise to this, as car or driver will have London address and insurance is miles away. Prima facie fraud, and tricky to explain at roadside. Often results in call to insurer to clarify. They could void the policy (ooops, no insurance, car seized, 6 points), or advise motorist of 'revised' premium to continue policy which requires immediate payment and is non-negotiable ....and presumably enter details into their fraud database.

Remaps vary in how detectable they are depending upon exactly how they were done. Again I agree with armalites, an undeclared remap is only an issue if something serious happens - however that serious incident may not be your fault but if your car ends up being examined in detail then it may become a problem. You makes your choice. Personally I wouldn't want the worry on top of everything else. Various things could happen, but the insurer may pay out the 3rd party bit of a claim but refuse your bit due to failure to declare a material fact - so you end up with a unrepaired car and no injury money.
Further to my recommendation with LR Insurance, they may have changed their rules on mods as the underwriters have changed recently. That said my claim was painlessly dealt with, with repairs done via a LR main dealer and a Volvo XC90 replacement car. I believe Direct Line are pragmatic and helpful also as SWMBO uses them Tony
