Either the 2011MY XS will correct the spec omissions or an SE will come out.

Repeat after me.....

Seriously, the XS spec is not up to the price so LR need to sort it out of bring out an SE at £2k more with a load more spec (xenons, memory seats, front armrests if you are reading this LR). Once that happens I'm in. If it does not then I'll buy a second hand HSE in 18-24 months time.

Oh and I need the option to put rear heated seats in an XS. My 2006MY SE has them as standard and friends would miss them. Kids can't use them as the boosters get in the way but they are not leather (the booster seats that is) so it does not matter.

Was just about to post the same question as the OP as I am currently looking to change our 2007HSE to a Disco4
I too am finding it hard justifying the 7k extra for the HSE over the XS and had virtually made up my mind to go for an XS. The way I looked at it, we never used the sunroof, the xenons aren't brilliant and to be honest we never used the memory function on the electric seats!
OK, the kids will miss the rear seat entertainment and the rear heated seats but they'll get used to it!
One thing I will miss is the fridge in the centre cuddy!
But hell, I didn't realise that the centre armrests were not included. This sounds really bad, but I don,t think I can put up with not having them! On a 350 mile day driving through France with the caravan in tow, they just made the ride so much more comfortable! I wonder if they can be ordered as an extra, or retro fitted even?
I've just told the dealer to hold fire and I think he thinks I'm mad!!

Are you mad? They are superb!

The electric seats (memory or not) are quite different to the manual ones in the XS.

This is an optonal extra on all models these days

Only electric seats have armrests, this goes for D3s also.

For me it worked the other way round. If your going to spend £40+K on a car you might as well go the extra mile (so to speak). I think this is what LR marketing had planned all along.

I'm more concerned with the P11D BIK tax!
Our current HSE cost about 41k so the current XS is about the same, so the BIK will be about the same.
If I go for the HSE it wil lput this up quite a bit,but I suppose if theres no alternative.....whatever happened to the SE spec?
I find the xenons great on high beam, but on dip I think they are pants....my daughters mini gives much better light!
I think we paid extra for the TV on our current car---christ knows why, we hardly use it, and when we do the picture keeps freezing!
Anyway, our Disco is in having a new EGR valve at the moment, and we have been lent a Ford Galaxy by Enterprise via landrover Assist------------after this, any model Disco will feel great!!

After extensive research and a lengthy trial - I have reached a conclusion about the arm rest in the D4 (and D3 for that matter). And the conclusion is that the armrest has purely psychological value - it doesn't actually serve any physical purpose (to me anyway). The true arm rest is the cubby box lid and the door ledge. Perhaps I am a bit wider and longer armed than some, but when the armrest is down, my arm doesn't actually contact it at all.

I think I have found your true identity Smarticus..............

"Under tremendous public pressure, and the crushing
financial burden of an ever mounting series of lawsuits, the government quietly
initiated the superhero relocation program. The supers will be granted amnesty
from responsibility for past actions, in exchange for the promise to never
again resume hero work. Where are they now? They are living among us. Average
citizens, average heroes. Quietly and anonymously continuing to make the world
a better place. "

I agree, I had armrests in a loan FL2 HSE, waste of time and a nuisance. There are a few unnecessary options for ridiculous amounts of money on the D3/4, my GS does all I want it to do, if I want leather I pay £1k and get it, if I want sat nav and TV I buy one (easy to update and state of the art modern technology that can be changed, unlike the fitted which I have in other cars that are not that great). Heated seats are not a problem because I don't have to sit on cold hard leather (yes I have my other cars all with leather and heated seats so I know), heated steering wheel is.... well you just have to laugh don't you, what next? heated gear knob for knobs Rolling with laughter

Through life I have come to learn about the rip off extra's, been there done that and been ripped off when it comes to trade it in, oh those extra's sir, well they don't add anything to the value, err...but you told me when I paid £20k for thos extras that the car would be more desireable, yes sir, more desireable but not worth any more Rolling Eyes

Easy come easy go, but life is for living so whatever floats your boat I guess!

Very sensible IMO Thumbs Up . My drives are either 200+ miles or nothing and the arm rest make the long drives so much more comfortable. Quite happily if it came down to cost take a second hand D3 HSE over a new D4 XS.
