After nearly 8 years I feel it’s time for the D3 to head to pastures new.
With 203k on the clock I’ve had my monies worth out it but it’s starting to demand more and more attention and maintenance.
Looking at changing later in the year when all this virus is over and some form of normality has returned.
My D3 has the adaptive lights, cubby box fridge and I’ve retrofitted the D4 heated flappy paddle wheel and the Logic 7 sound system.
Is the HSE luxury worth going for over a regular HSE?
Again will likely keep the car for 5+ years minimum but I can have a younger car with a warranty to cover the big bills on it.

I was always happy enough with an HSE. I had two MY16 Landmarks, very little difference in spec. between them and a LUX, but there was far more scope for additional extras with the Lux’s as the Landmark and Graphite were end of the line.
I never once used the RSE, I liked the additional leather but honestly not that bothered. The premium hifi was a bit better for sure, but again I didn’t feel shortchanged with the lesser Meridian system in the HSE and you might find an HSE with the premium system anyway. I’ve driven Lux’s with the surround camera system and found it pretty useless tbh.
It’s an individual thing. Personally I’d definitely want an EU6 engine as both of mine went noticeably better than the earlier EU5 ones I had. That and condition, history and price would be more important to me.
Good luck finding what you want. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

The main reason to have the lux is the upgraded sound system with TV and RSE. If you’ll never use it then a HSE will be fine.
That said, it really sure there’s much price difference in the 2nd hand market between the 2. I’m selling mine at the moment and I couldn’t give it away before the crisis.

There isn’t a massive difference in prices between a HSE and HSE luxury.
My budget will see me into an early 8 speed model. A facelift model would be nice but it’s too far a push.
So it’s 2012-13 models I’m looking at changing to.
Shall watch the market and see how prices track. My cars not going to get any cheaper, it’s got a history file you could comfortably use as a wheel chock

D4 HSE doesn't come with heated steering wheel as standard but you could remove the one you fitted to the D3 and pop it in a D4 to solve that problem. Stu

I went though this last year and was lucky enough to find what I wanted.
A very late spec AdBlue HSE Lux in Blue with dark interior.
In December when I was looking there were only two on autotrader in that spec.
I wanted the higher level audio, because I enjoy my music, and found that even most LR dealers couldn't tell me if a particular car was fitted with it when I asked about HSEs
Most will insist every HSE has it, but don't know what they are talking about.
There was one HSE Lux I looked at, in the wrong colour, that didn't have the top level audio.
I don't think any HSEs I thought about didn't have a heated steering wheel.
The reality is that there is very little difference between the HSE, HSE Lux, and even Landmark, and many HSEs were fitted with factory options to bring them up to HSE Lux or landmark level where it matters to the individual.
However towards the end LR built them with whatever they had left, hence some HSE Luxs and Landmarks won't have the full spec.
Good luck
Nasher. Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

From looking about on autotrader, a lot of the HSE models don’t have all the kit my 15 year old one has.
So looks like it’s a HSE luxury model is the one to go for.
Prices are all over the place. Not a huge amount separates a pre and post facelift model, mileage seems to bear little on prices between cars.
Warranty policies only go to 130k so that’s going to throw another spin on it.
