No an independent temperature sensor is not required.
The heater runs until coolant is 85 deg C from memory.

I just leave the fbh remote on an upstairs window sill.

Get out of bed. Look to see if cars have frost on them, if yes press the remote.
That’s it. The additional timer runs it for 15 mins.

A timer isn’t essential. A few people on here don’t have them.
But for £6 it’s nice to ensure it’s shut off, and reset.
And doesn’t unnecessary use fuel, if the remote is accidentally pressed (by limiting it to 15 mins)

First things first... Checked if the FBH is actually working - it seems not Very Happy

I'll use the guidance given in this brilliant thread: https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/robbies-gui...66-30.html

Just wondering two things, does the burner gasket survive dismantling or should I have a spare ready?

If the FBH has not been working because it's coked, will it operate again without some form of 'reset'?

Best ask in another thread.

But yes the burner can lockout after 3 failed start attempts.
I think removing the FBH fuse by the battery for A FEW MINUTESs, resets it

Strange, mine failed much more than 3 and never locked itself. It always "reset" after every engine start.

But worth following the reset procedure before do anything. as Pete K said above.

From another thread: Arrow

I’ve got a few members Webastos going again. I would say you will very probably need to try repeatedly and blow lots, no, much more than that ! if it’s been inoperable for a while.

Believe me... blow a LOT! I watched my diag tool, when the fuel pump started I start blowing... a lot.... Until a puff of smoke came from exhaust (and sometimes from air intake pipe) like a little explosion, when your barbecue re-ignite (a PUFF) Perhaps because I literally blocked the pipe and blowed directly, with pressure of my lungs Whistle (not sure how would it work if using compressed air.

Did that a couple of times... white smoke everywhere... and... since then it works fine (touch wood) Bow down .

Good luck.

ps.: if you do not have a diag tool, you can try this.:
- Make sure external temp is below 5 degC (mine does not work when 6dC or above)
- Open the hood,
- turn the key (make sure your heating fan is OFF),
- turn on the engine (wait some seconds)
- turn the heating fan (on heating)
- you will hear the FBH fan working, it starts high, then gets very low, goes up a bit, get low again, then get the glow plug lights and after that the fuel pump.
- after you turn the heating fan ON wait 50 seconds and start BLOWING LIKE A MAD PERSON on that little tube. about 30-40 seconds should be enough. You may feel some resistance when blowing.. that is fine.. continue doing it the "Puff" will come right after it.
- you should then hear the FBH fan going up like crazy...
- if all works, you should have the FBH working... DO NOT TURNED OFF before 10 mintues. (this means, heating fan ON, engine ON and FBH on for at least 10 min.

Good luck and let us know if it worked.

Yellow fuse 20A (F28) https://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/us...h-fuse.jpg (about six positions above your red circle.)

You are pointing (red circle) to the FL16. (Fuse link for light).

Look that there are 3 sizes os "things" in that box:
- BIG Black Relay (square),
- Small Coloured with Transparent cover fuse links (square) AND
- the Smaller (rectangular) FUSE... that is the one you need to pull. Wink

Our fbh didnt work when we got the car I was expecting to have to clean it out to get it to fire up BUT I had reason to fit a new battery at some point end of last summer.
I then got an iid tool and tried to start it with that but no luck I cleared all fault codes reset the car and left it, one cold morning it fired up all on it's own so it was proberly locked out due to x3 failed start up attempts for week battery or low fuel or both.

Following advice on here I put my air line into the fbh air intake and fired it up a few times and it's worked great ever since.

I'm now in the process of retro fitting one to my L322 v8 petrol Shocked

Yep iv got all my parts on order, the fbh was a rare factory option on the v8 petrol L322 and used as a timed cabin heater. My intention is to retro fit it to mine and use it as a cabin and engine warmer.

Remote operate it as a stand alone unit using a small derv supply mounted in the engine bay. My research shows the fbh can work on either petrol or derv I dont want to mess about with the cars fuel tank as per factory install so a simple fuel supply with derv will do nicely.

An old top gear has Clarkson reviewing my model car and telling every one about the small fbh mounted in the wheel arch running off a small paraffin bottle to warm it up before you set off to work.

It's my new lockdown project Mr. Green

Yeah if just had a look seems he has raised the price to stop people like us making a unit up on our own well

Here is the original w-bus converter I was going to buy and his price has stayed the same all year

Hi Lrstaylor

On the W-bus controller, In the advert it states (EASY install: 6 wire only: +12V, GND, IN , Wbus out, Vehicle fan relay control, Circulation pump control
YES! From this time, You can use any "third party" timer , Gsm starter, or a simple switch to start Your TT V heater).

I presume if you don't want to use vehicle fan and pump this will still work with 4 connections, switch (third button on remote), earth, fused feed and connection to No2 on the FBH, electrics not my forte,
any advice appreciated.

Yes it will work with only 4 wires
The fan control is extra

However these won’t work off the headlamp 3rd button
You need the remote (£10)

Thanks Pete K

Great, I'm not fussed about the timer, or is it necessary, and unfortunately the remote doesn't seem to be available, the advert say "no longer available" any other options, thanks.
