D3 2.7 TDV6 Engine acceleration issue

Hi All
I am new to the forum
I purchased my first D3 about 6 weeks ago 54 - 2.7 TDV6 HSE
I have a problem,
When the engine is under load going up hill etc the revs fluctuate up and down by about 1000rpm at the same time there is a sucking grating type noise coming from the engine, there is a delay when accelerating and acceleration is not smooth at all
I carried out a full service to the vehicle after purchase all filter etc have been replaced etc, the vehicle has been into my local garage to try and identify the problem, they diagnosed the issue as a faulty turbo actuator.
I have replaced the turbo with a fully re manufactured unit but the same symptoms persist
The vehicle is not showing any fault codes, auto gear box appears to be fine not really sure what else to look at as i have read up and checked the usual issues
It is hard to describe the noise the engine is making but the noise is in sink with the fluctuation of the revs when the engine is under load
Any ideas or is anyone local to Mansfield who would be willing to pop round and test drive to possibly diagnose what the problem is
I am pretty good with mechanics and have owned Land rover Defenders for many years
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated

Hi
Thanks for the reply
Yes its the 6 speed auto box
The noise appears to be coming from the engine bay, i would assume the converter is fitted to the gear box? the gear box oil has been changed according to the service records
Would the torque converter cause these type of symptoms and is it difficult to change
Thanks

would i be looking for the cross over pipe leaking or being partially blocked?

hi

think i’ve read on here where they split causing a noise

aplogises but i’m not experienced enough to fully diagnoses what may be causing the issue , it was just something i read on here

Hi
Yes EGR's have been blanked and had the ECU removal reprogramme bit done too
I checked the intercooler hoses during the Turbo replacement and all seems ok
There is no slip in the gear change and the gear box is smooth without any judder etc
Fuel economy isnt great so i was thinking possibly something to do with injectors, fuel delivery etc rather than a problem with the gearbox but i am new to these vehicles so will take any advice to identify the problem
I will check out the cross over pipe for leaks etc but if it was the cross over pipe leaking then surely the engine would make the noise when the engine is rev'ed at stand still? which it doesnt ?
thanks

What is a cross over pipe? Still looking for me D3 so all valuable knowledge I did think TC from what already learnt but don't think it would give the noise you mentioned.

hi
the videos show a similar effect to the revs but mine is a lot more pronounced
mine also has a sucking and grating noise which follows the revs going up and down, the fault on mine gets progressively worse as the engine gets warmer
from what i can see of the cross over pipe (which connects at the turbo and runs around the back of the engine to the drivers side) it appears to be ok with no visible signs of any leakage

hi

ref the cross over pipe i wouldn’t have thought there would be a grating noise

if u just have the engine running and sitting there do ur revs still fluctuate along with the noise or only under load

where abouts are u please as one of the forum experts maybe able to have time to look at it for u, so at least it can identify the fault for u

ps, as a seperate note seeing you’ve just bought it , have all the belts / oil pump cover been replaced

the revs only fluctuate when the vehicle is moving and under load, at stand still it idles normally

i am in Pleasley just north of Mansfield and i work in Chesterfield

it would be really appreciated if someone could take a look and give me a better idea i have already spent £320 on a turbo i obviously didn't need thanks to a miss diagnosis by my local garage

Thanks

I assume you have checked the gearbox oil level?
First place to start and its free, ignore the fact its just had an oil change check it anyway.
