Dexther, I too watched that programme, listened intentley to the man who indeed came ashore on his belly to take the beach samples , a few weeks before. Knackers of steel I think.
Prince Charles was at the main rememberence at Arnham, which he should have been as he IS the Para's colonel in chief anyway, but he COULD have done Normandy too. Guess he had to run back to mummy and watch his wife run in the 12:15 at Epsom.

I don't suppose we'll ever know, but there's different levels of involvement ranging form the organised armed groups who took to the mountains to the Allo, Allo type normal folks who just did what they could to feck up the Nazi's day to day plans. They got a few allied service men back to blighty at least.
My father took part on d-day and was wounded. He was a cameraman with the Army Film Unit and took many of themoving images of the British landings.Loving the power of the TDV8!
