Ctek time....
The car has been sitting for a week, and was a bit reluctant to start this morning, with a bit of initial churning.
On a short trip, the battery and glow plug lights didn't go out,and the glow plug light stayed on until the car went to sleep.
First time I've needed the charger,as any other times have been preventative.......more regular use of the Ctek over the Winter required I think."Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

What is it with D4s and bad starting/battery drain? My D3 has stood for 10 weeks without any starting problem, frequently stands for a month or more. It also just tends to get short (6 miles) to the gym & back and never has an issue, even with a 5 year old battery.
Touch wood.

Even with my limited understanding,I did think it was strange that the glow plugs light didn't go out even after switching off the ignition
Mike coming down on Monday to tend to a friends sick D3,so I'll get him to have a read of the fault codes

I would not be tempted to run it with the glowplug light on.

I need a charger and at the moment halfords are doing a 8 amp one at 20quid. Now while I like the look of the ctek how do I justify the extra cash?

You stare at the expensive power sensitive computer network on wheels resplendent with fibre optics and 3 other databuses that masquerades as your daily driver.

Ok just been out,and although the car has been on charge for 4 hours the glow plug light came on as soon as I opened the drivers door and woke the system.....time for a call to LRA...thanks for the advice as always "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

No problem.
My thoughts so far is that the glowplugs are fine and that this is an Electronic Diesel Control (EDC) issue. The EDC controls the injectors which would also explain the poor start. The LRA chap should be able to see what part of the the sensor-ECM-EDC-injector chain is at fault.
