Cruise control switched itself on !! |
|
Had a bit of a weird one yesterday.
Was happily driving down the motorway when I felt the D3 speed up a little, on it’s own accord. Spotted the amber cruise control light on, indicating that that cruise control was switched on, even though I didn’t switch it on.
So I thought perhaps I had simply hit the switch by mistake. Press the O to turn it off, the light went out, I released the switch & the light came on again & once again the D3 started to speed up
Then I tapped the brakes, again the light went out & I felt the CC disengage, but as soon as I came off the brakes, it re-activated again.
Next I held the O button for a bit longer, (couple of seconds) the CC disengaged, the car slowed down, but as soon as I released the O button, the CC re-activated.
So lastly I held the O button for nearly a minute, during which the car preformed normally, with the CC disengaged & the amber light on the dash off. So I tentatively let go the O button & all was well this time, with the CC remaining switched off for the rest of my journey……… Phew
Anyone experienced the CC just switching itself on & if so any ideas on what may be going on ??

I'm not sure if this is spooky or just scary, but it's definitely worrying. Never heard of anyone ever having this problem before though....
The two things that pop into my (admittedly rather simple) mind is the switch panel contacts being jammed on or maybe a faulty clock spring causing suficient resistance to detect a button press (in your case, it was rather unluckily the CC resume button)... 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

I must say I was a bit concious of this sort of scenario when I realised there was no separate 'isolation' switch for the cruise control in the D3.
In my RR classic there was a separate switch on the dash to turn CC on, then you used the steering wheel buttons to activate/set it.

Sounds like it could be 'clock springs' to me ? I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

Yeah my thoughts were along the lines of “dodgy contacts†on one of the CC buttons.
Either the resume or the I/O button.
Like you DiscoDad I prefer when there’s a independent shut off for the CC. I did check the fuse listings to see if there was a fuse for the CC I could pull, but alas not.

Sounds software related there was a ungrade for the CC. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Mmmmmm
I’ll check into that upgrade
I posted yesterday from Heathrow, en route across the pond. I’ve asked “Mrs Zebadee†to keep an eye on it & if it happens again before I get home, she’ll pop into the dealer. If not I’ll check it out on my return.
