My cruise control is only working intermittently. Sometimes it will not work at all, other times when I try to decrease the speed with it, it will turn itself off. Sometimes if I turn the vehicle off and restart, it will work for a short time, then fail. Anybody else have this problem? 05 Discovery 3 SE TDV6 Chawton White with roof rails, driving lights, steel side protection rails. Rego: DISCO3

It's been reported that the steering wheel slip rings can cause problems with this. do you use the steering wheel as a 'assist' whilst getting into the vehicle?

The steering wheel slip ring was the problem in mine. The circuits have little cracks on them in early manufacture, these have now been upgraded.

Took the vehicle to the dealer yesterday and he ran a computer analysis on the Cruise Control and could not find any problem, but it still does not work! Has referred it upstairs for a solution. I changed the oil at 7112kms yesterday, I could not bear to run the new engine through to 12,000 kms before the first oil change. Have a good Christmas everyone. 05 Discovery 3 SE TDV6 Chawton White with roof rails, driving lights, steel side protection rails. Rego: DISCO3

Hi,
The solution is simple as I have had the same problem on both my vehicles, you will need a new set ofcontact rings behind the wheel .Needless to say it will be a part that your dealer will have to special order. I do not use the wheel as an assist when I get in the vehicle nor does HID , and my "wonderful" dealer said it was down to a batch of faulty rings, although twice and six months apart is stretching credibility somewhat. Alive and kicking..who's round is it anyway ??

The 'contact rings' are actually more like clock springs ( in fact, that's what they are called in the LR workshop manuals) and are more like flexible PCB's than the old copper slip rings with carbon spring loaded brushes. Most of the buttons work by activating part of a resistance ladder rather than digital signals.
