Cruise Control

My second Disco 3. First one ('05 plate) was exchanged (at my cost) after it developed so many software / electrical faults I lost track.

And now the second one an '06 S. The cruise control keeps crashing. Turn it on ok. Change speed ok. Change speed again...no change...press the buttons repeatedly and the cruise control goes off never to return. So basically pick a speed and never change it!! Tricky.

Following an incident of two days ago my vehicle is at the dealers. The crusie control refused to switch off using the steering wheel switches...had to remember to brake..rather sharpish.

Great vehicle but the electrics are postively annoying for a vehicle of this cost. I am left with little choice but to replace the vehicle before the warranty expires.

Had similar problem with an 05 HSE - tracked it down to occuring when roads were very wet. Issue took weeks to resolve but eventually it turned out that in some earlier models the wiring loom is such that there is a connector block (which in true LR fashion is not waterproofed) somewhere in the front wing if I recall, and that gets damp, corrodes the connector cables in the block & hence you get these intermittent faults. Took the dealer & LR a while to own up to it and although LR wanted to just re-splice the connector, the dealer advised this would just recur & insisted that they put in a complete new (modified I think) wiring loom Smile

No problems since then with this. I monitored the work - but they were very concerned to let me see the car, as it involves dismanting it , dash, seats out, bonnet off etc & then miles of wiring. All credit to the dealer (T&C in Aberdeen) that they actually managed to assemble it Wink (but they then mentioned it was not the first time they had had to do this Shocked )

A not-very-accurate review of my D3 doing the same seems to tell me that if I don't wait for the system check "bong" before starting the engine I MAY get cruise control and mirrors-in-reverse-position problems.

So far, waiting for the "bong" seems to have prevented these two..... Rolling Eyes

The "Bong" does seem to be very fundamental to the fair operation of the car and i am religious now in waiting for it at all times........I assuem it is no different to your PC (or MAC Rolling Eyes ) booting up........

No startup Bong on MY2007 and later

Waiting for Bong has no effect on mine - very infrequently and unpredictably the cruise will die on an attempt to set / reset it Neutral

Shocked Shocked Shocked it's only cruise control!!! Shocked Shocked
The system works by switching a resistance ladder against a reference voltage, if the output is slightly off, then the ECM takes no action.... this can be caused by poor or loose connections to or in the switchpack, 'clock spring' or dash harness, occasionally, (and mainly on early examples) the clock spring assembly developed cracks in the flexible PCB causing intermittent or erroneous operation. The first step should be to look for stored DTC's indicating 'unexpected outputs'
