Crooked hood/bonnet: manufacturing defect? |
|
I have just discovered that my hood/bonnet is crooked. The gap between the bottom of the hood and the headlight is greater on the driver's side (left-hand drive) than on the passenger's. Upon examination I noticed that the rubber bumps under the hood itself differ in size, one being about 3/4 of an inch and the other about 1.
My question is, are all D3/LR3s like this, or did someone screw mine up during manufacture?
Thanks all!

the bump stops screw in and out for adjustment and maybe thats all it requires to level up. is the bonnet hard to close, as mine was until the bump stop was adjusted. also the latch might need a slight shift if adjusting the stops does not cure the problem (as the stops require some tension on them), either way let the dealer do it under warranty, it is just misaligned and not much to worry about.

Yes, there is a service bulletin about this. I haven't got the tsb number to hand, but bonnet/hood adjustment is a documented issue.

is this what you were referring to
Subject/Concern: Discovery 3/LR3 - Hood Vibration/Adjustment Process
Models:
Discovery 3/LR3 VIN-range: 5A000360 Onwards
Markets: All
Section: 501-03
Summary:
A customer may report a concern of either,
hood (bonnet) movement while driving, even though the hood is correctly latched/closed or
hood failing to latch correctly/difficult to close or
the message center displays the message 'Hood Open', even though the hood is correctly latched/closed.
Cause: For vehicles up to VIN 5A301030, the hood buffers do not provide sufficient contact between the hood and the slam panel which can lead to hood movement despite the hood adjustment gaps being acceptable. For vehicles after this VIN, hood movement will be due to incorrect hood adjustment. Instances of the hood failing to latch properly/difficult to close, are most likely to be caused by incorrect hood adjustment. Instance of the 'Hood Open' warning message being displayed is also most likely to be adjustment-related.
NOTE: The hood switch is integrated into the right-hand hood latch.
Action: Should a customer express concern regarding the above, refer to the Service Procedure detailed in this bulletin which provides specifications relating to adjustment gaps.

Thank you so much for the information! I've already called my dealer and scheduled a visit. They're also replacing a headlight washer that's turned grey. Now, if I could only figure out the correct procedure for resetting a factory radio in a 99 Disco, my life would be complete! 1999 Discovery V8i
