I know it is a well trodden path but it is still when it happens, toyed with selling a couple of months back as well. Hopefully WD will come good although only 50% contribution, WD recovering to Dragon Engines, has anyone any experience of them. Commercial SDV6 8 Speed 255

WD have been using Dragon engines for a few years, they do get a mention on here in other threads with crank failures.
Why the 50% contribution

Just 7 years old and turned 159K. Had 10 yr/160k service to LR schedule and had MOT no advisories and tester said it’s as good a New hasn’t seen one as clean for a long time! Full history serviced by the book.
Just goes to show it is more luck than anything else.
WD warranty at this mileage is down to 50% contribution. Still better than nothing to have LR new engine fitted is something close to 17K and with turbos etc 21K so not an economic option. Commercial SDV6 8 Speed 255

You might read this thread:- https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/bang-engine...p;start=60 where on 26th July 2011 I wrote:-

Replacement engine provided at the lowest possible cost due to our excellent relationships with major manufacturers.
Reconditioned - flexible warranty plan (3 months, 3,000 miles)
Remanufactured engine are -engineered to 'O.E' specifications and tolerances and carry a twelve month 14,000 mile warranty.
Used-tested engine carry up to a twelve month, 12,000 miles warranty and make an economical solution to other more expensive alternatives.
You need to be very clear about what you are getting, and what expense, if any, you are expected to bear.
The link is time expired, but I suggest you need to be very careful to establish exactly what you are getting for your money.
Good luck - please keep us posted.

Don't most go pop at a lower mileage than that I thought you were pretty safe if you got past 105000 with a cambelt change?

I had thought that but there seem to be a few at 150K-170K after that not so many reported but that is probably because perception is that it goes with the territory, wouldn’t mind so much if servicing was scetchy but it is bang on have every service and maintenance receipt against vehicle from new. Having said that I am told that the ambulance service policy onD4 is no expense spared on these and they have had a few go bang, sometimes they don’t spare the horses when on a calll but often just driven at normal road speed. The luck of the draw! Commercial SDV6 8 Speed 255

Sorry to hear - the worst nightmare for a D4 owner. Did WD insist on using Dragon Engines or did you have a choice of where to get the car recovered to?
I’ve just started a warranty with them and would prefer use my local indy if the worse should happen.
Good luck - hope it all works out ok.
