Crack in large panoramic rear sunroof
Hi,
Just looked out of the upstairs window to see what looked like a crack in the rear panoramic sunroof. On investigation it is about 100mm in the front near side corner joining the front and side. You can feel the crack.
Is this likely to let water inside the car or if water freezes could it shatter the whole glass area?
Is a replacement costly (insurance?) or would it be OK to continue using it?
Any advice much appreciated!
Thank youmoles

it's not likely to let water in if you can't feel anything on the inside, it is laminated glass, but it might be worth adding a little good quality clear silicon into the crack to stop anything getting worse, or try claiming on your insurance David

Just had mine done same symptoms and it didnt leak. My insurance did not cover under the glass part of the policy and I had to make a full insurance claim but luckily my no claims was protected. The full claim excess was £400 and the glass cost around £700 plus probably at least that again to fit, so just cost me the £400 which was bad enough.
Contact your insurance or read the full policy to see whats covered. Luckily they are bonded so they dont need to strip the roof lining etc D4 HSE Lux MY16 Club Waitomo

This was done on the D4 when we bought it, I think the dealership said it was £1000+ quite a specialist job not a DIY at home thing to do...

Not that specialist as far as glass is concerned as its just a bonded roof glass although most dealers will just sub the work to a windscreen company. Mine in the end was sent to a bodyshop but was a pretty basic wire through the seal job.D4 HSE Lux MY16 Club Waitomo
