Has the cost of running a Discovery altered after the budget
I had a quick look through the bullet points from yesterdays budget and I think that there is no increase in associated motoring taxes due anytime soon. Fuel duty frozen yet again.

Re fuel prices, presently not far off the peak £/ltr when oil was up at $120/barrel (ISTR), except crude is roughly at $77. God help us if crude goes back up to that level. We’re no longer getting screwed by the taxman, we’re getting right royally shafted by the oil companies again.

Really scarey reading DSL's figures of actual oil prices vs pump prices. That doesn't bode well for the future price of fuel. Can you get equity release on a D3 ?1955 SWB Series 1 86 inch

rising sales of electric vehicles = falling demand for oil (for fuel at least)? Prices can only go one way....

I don’t claim to be an oil trader or expert on the market but I don’t think there is evidence of significant drop in consumption of oil products. Most people are pumping what they can and have increased it lately - both OPEC and non-OPEC like Russia. Additionally there are countries that could produce more in ideal circumstances but are unable to like Iran, Iraq, Venezuela, ...
Additionally a significant rise in oil price will make it economically feasible to produce more oil in places where the production cost currently is higher than the price per barrel.

While WTI and Brent have fallen from their 52 week highs they’re nowhere near the 52 week low, either. The price per unit of both is significantly less than what they were in 2014.
As for how the price of a commodity translates to the price a consumer pays ... it really doesn’t directly do that. All the players in the oil business protect themselves with hedges both on the buy and sell side.

Nowhere in the article does it say that crude price directly relates to the diesel pump price. However if the crude price is falling, and is nearly half of what it was in 2014, then it is entirely unreasonable that the pump rise should be rising to near record levels again. Fears of trade wars, physical wars or unrest, which would always drive the crude oil prices up BUT that is not the case here they are still low..
