Hi All,
prior to the previous service, I noticed that the D3 was losing coolant. I reported it at the service and was advised that it was a loose hose clamp, which they had retightened.
However, I notice that the D3 is still losing coolant.
Assuming that it is not another loose joint, I imagine that the "next best" problem would be a leaking EGR cooler. Is this right or should I be considering other options?
If so, and as I have the BAS EGR blanking kit in my spares kit, would blanking off the EGR solve the problem, or would I need to bypass the EGR cooler?
TIA,
Peter The Bearded Dragon

definately coolant loss? Not just the low coolant message? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

As CaverD3 says - there were problems with some of the early coolant tanks. Coolant seeped into the level indicator making it sink and give false readings - if you haven't had the tank replaced on your 2005, check the level on the tank visually first.
I can't see how blanking off the EGR valve would stop a coolant leak - but that doesn't mean it would, sure someone with more detailed info about this area will be along shortly LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Bushwanderer, Ive been getting coolant loss - going from a full resevoir to "coolant low" message every 1000 miles.
Dealer tested EGR Cooling, Block test, radiator pipes etc but couldnt find any leaks
Not much help to you i'm afraid but i'll be keeping an eye on it and report back : http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic42455.html Duncan

bushwanderer, I dont think blanking it off will fix the leak if it is the EGR cooler as that is (ISTR) still in place as it's the main part of it. The blanking kit just blocks the airflow off. Bodsys Brake Bible

As posted on DiscoDuncs thread, I also had mysterious coolant loss.
This was eventually traced down to the Oil Cooler. I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

Hi Caver,
Definitely, low coolant, as shown in the reservoir. (My D3 doesn't have a coolant float. )
Many thanks for all the replies. Likely options seem to be EGRV, EGR cooler or oil cooler.
I also accept that blanking off the EGR valves will not overcome an EGR cooler leak. (I didn't think it would but thought it worth asking.)
I guess I'll wait and give the dealer a 2nd chance (booked in Fri 11th Dec).
Best Wishes,
Peter
