SWMBO is also a keen advocate, indeed it was one of the things she threw a wobbler about at the LR guys at a launch event

It’s jolly useful to stand on to take off the radio antenna when SWMBO decides she wants to drive somewhere with a low roof. Hopefully they’ll ban diesels from everywhere with a shopping centre soon and I’ll get to drive the Disco to nice places and the tailgate will just be for making a brew and admiring the view from.

@PeteK
I have been thinking along those lines for SWMBO and the tailgate finishes that argument.

Love the tailgate. It actually is an essential for me - loading isn't a significant factor - If something is at the back I either jump in, or reach across with the lower tailgate up and drag it backwards, then lower it and retrieve the item.
Benefits for me are (amongst others) a working platform, somewhere to sit, somewhere to cook, somewhere to stand.

We had a similar thread to this many moons ago and one of the uses was lambing.
RRs have been advocating this as a good thing for many, many years so if it’s good enough for them. Plus re sitting, friend of mine (hi stuff ) was pointing out/complaining about his RRS where he sat on the boot lip to change boots/shoes would result in getting his cloths crubby, a problem he didn’t have with his D3.

Proof that even short people aren't inconvenienced by the split tailgate.
It’s one of the top features of D3/4 for me. The apparent lack of a split tailgate is the one thing that’s stopping me getting excited by the new Defender.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

The sliding floor was designed to be the best of both worlds. No need to reach in as everything slides out to you.

The RRS do have a smaller boot than a D3 though, so be warrned!
Infact I would say the RRS boot is small when the rear seats are up!
You will miss a few bits too

I would keep the D3 and have the RRS as the family car. However that might not work, we have just arrived at our holiday destination. It is 90 mins away and we are staying for a week.

You need to have a strict “if you can’t have your bags on your lap for the whole journey you’ve got too much stuff” rule. Apart from the driver of course, his stuff has to be distributed amongst the other peeps.
This is the stuff I took for 6 weeks, and will be carrying the same for 6 months. And some of that is communal kit.
Pic to follow.
