Just bought a set of 17" D3 wheels with Continental 235/70R18 tyres (can't remember the exact type but will add that tonight). I want to use up the tread on them before I put on Cooper STTs so couple of questions:
Anybody know what the tread depth on these tyres is when new and also what sort of mileage they are lasting??
Thanks
Derek

Don't know!
Soak them in hydraulic fluid, then see if you can smoke her up! Have a nice day!

Don't know about tread depth new (10mm?), but after 15,000 miles ours are still 'good as new'. At a guess we'll get well over 50,000 miles on the set, judging by the wear so far. Discovery 3 tdv6 7 seat Buckingham Blue
Had it since new - sold Jun 17 after 12 years and 214,000 miles

And Slimer gets the prize for spotting the not so deliberate mistake of the day! Well spotted! Today is not starting off well, that was just the start. Did mean 235/70R17s!
PS Jamo, burning off the rubber was not the idea. Mind U, if i did it on my gravel drive with some fresh render on the house, could do the pebble dashing at the same time!

I am trying to do the exact same thing! I have a set of 17's on at the moment, and am trying very hard to wear them down a bit so I can justify a set of Coopers.
The tyres have 8mm new, and I have got mine down to 5 in 8000 miles. So I reckon another 8k and I will be ready.
The D3 really does handle very well on the limit, and it is great fun find out! especially when the tyres are 'expendable'
The only problem is, my fuel consumption is poor, and I go through brakes just as quick too. I now need new pads and I think disks too on the front.
Would have been cheaper to just chuck the Wranglers and buy the Coopers, but not half the fun

Most of my driving is pretty boring 60-70ish Mway stuff so I'm pretty kind to brakes & tyres. Hopefully I'll get better than 16k (got 50k out of the Synchrones on my D2) as I'm not in a rush to get the Coopers.

My original Wranglers did 30k. I don't think the D3 is as kind to tyres as the D2. I used to get 50k+ on the D2.

Seem to remember that the D2's Michelins came with 13mm of tread, now that is down to half on the OE tyres when new.
