Constant reconnection

As part of my long, unsolved saga on my D4...

When I connect the tool it usually works. Sometimes it says invalid vehicle and rarely 'invalid VIN'. When it connects it usually runs ok but when I try some live values it will immediately go back to 'connect to last tool'. If I do this it can happen a few times and then be OK. Sometimes it will be connected OK and when I read live values they are N/A and I see the tool is disconnected.

Is this the car, bluetooth, the tool, the connector, the bus???
Lost..
any ideas?
thanks

Have you updated the firmware?

Quite a lot of connection issues have been fixed in previous patches.

Flack once posted that some of the cheaper code readers have thicker/wider pins and it means the iiD doesn't properly connect when used afterwards.
