Constant 12V to a in-car socket
Hi! Coming from the world of Nissans and Jeeps, now with my first D3, I am wondering if you guys have figured out the best way to have 12V constantly available from any of the 12V power sockets that D3 has?
Now when D3 goes asleep it switches off also the power sockets, whereas I would wish one of them to remain active (e.g. to feed a fridge, or to act as input for external battery charger (because I have 240V fed inside the car for the winter nights anyway, and would like to rather place the charger inside the car than leaving outdoors prone to the elements and attaching e.g. via the tow bar plug).
Any hints much appreciated!

If all you want to do is run a small fridge, and charge the battery, I would fit an accessory socket somewhere, wired directly to the main battery, with an in line fuse.

Hi Jarmo welcome to the site
Keeping one live off the existing battery will only serve to run it flat pretty quickly. The solution many have found is to install a second battery and run any live sockets off that thus protecting your main battery.
Plenty of info on how its done on the site. Battery fits neatly into the compartment opposite where your main battery is under the bonnet. Just chuck out the alarm box and it'll fit snuggly in there A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.

Thanks Bodsy, this looks like the brilliant first approach I'll try right on! I would not have found those Wigg's pics easily myself.
Others, thanks, I did notice there's a lot of stuff about secondary battery installations. My thought of line by default was that it is such popular topic because people want to run winches and other extra heavy duty stuff, but I'm beginning to get an impression, that D3 itself may be of such big thirst for electricity, that that may be the actual reason behind...

You are exactly right. I don't have a winch, but I do have an Aux battery...Bodsys Brake Bible
So, if you install Battery 2, and the Traxide kit, and all that lovely stuff - what is run from Batt 2 in addition to the Aux 12V sockets?____

whatever you want to run from it................I have 2 sockets from traxide ontop of the OEM one, so have plenty of Permanent points for power
Ah right. I wondered if the installation switched over some of the built in electrical equipment (eg radio, aircon, interior lights or whatever) over to the second batt. I guess not?____

Right, sorry if I'm labouring the point, but are you saying that that (with engione off) the second battery powers *everything* you chgoose to run, and the primary battery is untouched?
If so, cool... 8)____

Yup, spot on..................I think ALL duel systems will run this way and ultimately protect the cranking battrey.

antoniasdad, don't get confused by the info, It will not stop the main battery going flat if you decide you want the car radio on for 3 hours......

But if you had a 12v radio, that would be fine
The car radio will flatten the main battery in 3 hours?????????? Really?____
