Hi K and welcome to the forum.
D3 or D4? well that depends on personal preference really. The body, engines, running gear, and electronics are basically the same for both. With mostly cosmetic, comfort, and ergonomic changes to the D4 along with increased engine capacity to 3.0ltr and twin turbo set up.
So regardless of which one you choose, and apart from condition and driving experience, the overriding consideration for you should be maintenance records and service history!
No records or history, walk away! These can very quickly break your bank ac if not maintained correctly. Get it looked at by a professional who knows or specialises in these cars.
Have a look on here or post a request for someone to do an inspection, there may well be someone near you. One last thing, if you can put aside £1k as a "just in case" fund. If you can't don't let it put you off buying. Good luck!
Hi, welcome At least the D3 is a SE and not a HSE so no leaking sunroof. Its one less thing to worry about. Good luck and be patient as rushing in may cost you money (I know from experience )The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;
They just make the best of everything they have.
And don't rush in, i have an SE great motor.
But put a grand a year to one side for running costs.
Regards
Ray

Thank you for the tips.
It became a no brainier with the trade in either 2k gbp for the d3 or 8k for the d4.
Deposit is paid, the service history is great and looking forward to picking it up soon as it’s been serviced/MOT and a small leather repair made on the 3rd row seat.
Next you’ll be hearing about my silly questions on the d3 but I’ve got some of the basics covered that seem to be asked a lot....
I know where the aux port is
I know how to stream music to the d3 from my iPhone and what I need to do
But I might want to know other basics lol
Thanks for the help so far. More to come I reckon

I'm not a fan of garages covering up the registration.
Can't check the MOT history

Not as standard, only if you were daft enough to ask for one The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;

90 percent of cars I have ever owned have had sunroofs, I like them, but everyone without exception has been trouble at some point.
Do you remember the big craze in the Eighties. Get a perfectly good car and cut the roof out to fit a Webasto sun roof DIY and watch the water in ! You were very cool then especially in winter when it was dripping on your head and in your lap

Oh yes who could ever forget the Muppet's with the tin opener
Mind you, the water ingress was small potatoes compared to when these things exploded into smithereens, due to poor fitting and a blast of summer sun
Not ideal on a first date, or any for that matter yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
