Conrods and pistons for TDV6 |
|
Hi All
we are desperately trying to source information on and a supplier for conrods, pistons and bearings for the PSA 2.7 TDV6 engine as fitted to the D3.
There is a growing number of failed engines here in SA which fell victim to the turning big end bearing nitemare with seized bearings, snapped conrods and even snapped cranks.
If anyone can assist, please help!
Thank you all in advance EX AFRICA SEMPER ALIQUID NOVI

Don't think they are available as a separate item, have you measured them and asked some manufacturers if they do anything with them dimensions?

I think its growing to be quite a big problem, there does seem to be an awful lot of people on here with failed engines and nowt you can do about it apart from replacing it. Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Apparently another 10 years before they are released from a 3rd party supplier, and LR/PSA won't supply them either...
Which makes you wonder about all these "re-con" engines floating around. If you can get big end/main bearing, and piston rings, what have they actually done to the engine? My D3 Build Thread

Hi guys
what we actually desperately need are the torque settings for the big end and main bearing caps.
Billet Con rods can be ordered from the States (they make them to requirements), pistons can be made and so with bearings.
But without the correct torque settings this is all meaningless. EX AFRICA SEMPER ALIQUID NOVI

5+ per month in Johannesburg/Pretoria area alone. Number of incidents is growing by the month. And please remember we only hear about those where the vehicle was out of motorplan.
We have found a cure to prevent it from happening on those motors, where the bearings haven't started to shift yet. Unconventional but VERY effective
But for those poor owners who are faced with a destroyed engine, there must be an alternative to a new sub-assembly, whose price has shot up from ZAR 22000.00 at the beginning of this year to now ZAR47000.00.
Why do I get the notion that there is something wrotten in the State ..... EX AFRICA SEMPER ALIQUID NOVI

George
I think I have, some time ago, posted some suggestions on sourcing components.
I recently had con. rods made to my specification by Carrillo, who also make pistons:-
http://www.cp-carrillo.com/Segments/Custom...fault.aspx
I have also used forged pistons, again made to order, by JE Pistons:-
http://www.jepistons.com/
I have heard good things about:-
http://www.wiseco.com/
who will make pistons, rods, crankshafts etc to order, but I have no personal experience of them.
They are all expensive for limited runs, but if you could order sufficient for a number of engines then the unit cost come down.

Edited to add:-
Diamond are about to start production of replacement pistons & gudgeon pins for production diesel engines. Get in quick & they might include pistons for the Lion V6 engines, particularly in the light of its use in so many different vehicles.

Getting a bit worrying now.
But is this amount of failures above the industry average ? . Personally I would be well peeved if the crank went on any engine with less than 200,000 miles - perhaps I'm naive.
Are all the failures due to the crank bearing rotating as hgbosch has found, or could some be attributed to wrong oil/fuel/ etc.
I'm hoping that some of the trade that are on this site can provide some info on any of this.
Andi.

Why not simply ask Land Rover, in writing, saying you are rebuilding an engine after a precautionary strip down?
They can hardly refuse.
