connecting a lighting board to existing trailer electrics |
|
Im a planning on attaching a towbar to my sankey trailer so that I can carry the mountain bikes.
Ive got a Thule bike carrier with lighting board that i need to connect.
So, i was going to connect up a lighting socket on the Sankey to plug the bike carrier into.
Given i will have the sankey plugged in to the D3 tow electrics, then the trailer board plugged into the sankey tow electrics and the sankey tow electrics wired into the Sankeys lighting circuit, can anyone invisage any problems before I wire it all up ?
am i likely to blow some fuses - given i now know the indicators arent fused, running 3 sets of indicators off the same circuit concerns me a little. I may need to fuse them all on the sankey as well. Duncan

Dunc
Apart from the lack of fuses, which is a separate issue, I would think its ok as a lot of new trailers now have repeater lights so Im guessing that the load would not be a problem. Member of the carrot crank club

i'll try and see. I am thinking of putting a set of fuses into the sankey circuit just in case - dont like the idea of an indicator problem and losing everything Duncan

I guess using LEDS would remove the problem altogether ??

If you've got bulbs on the sankey the D3 probably won't notice that you connected LEDS on the extra lighting board. Not relevant for your problem, but 55w resistors would surely fix the hissy fit for leds on trailer as per fitting D4 rear lights to a D3?

I think you'll be alright - our new bailey caravan has repeater lights down both sides, along with lowlevel marker lights along the side, and the D3 didnt seem to mind these. Side markers might be LEDs though - I didnt look too closely.

ive just wired another lighting cable direct to the 7 pin plug and taken that cable to a set of 7 fuses. Ive put 3 amp in for the moment. when the Scoket arrives i'll connect it all up and see what happens Duncan
