Connecting to the AUX input
I should like to be able to play audio tapes through a tape walkman. It looks as if by connecting the headphone output to the AUX socket (in the back just between the two seats) I should be able to hear sound though the built in audio system. Is my thinking right and can anyone confirm I need a 3.5 mini jack to feed into the AUX socket?Zambezi Silver SE / Ebony Leather

Yes your right - anything with a headphone out socket can be connected via a 3.5 socket lead - I use my iPod all the time - need to adjust the volume up to around 30 on the main unit though, the aux input doesn't seem to respond well to input volumes.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Aux - ipod
Hi, I use a line-out connection on the bottom of my ipod (a wide white one) rather than using the headphone socket, this gives less hiss and also disables the volume control on the ipod. You dont have to worry about the volume on the ipod and you dont have to turn the stereo more than normal either.Nov '54' TDV6 SE Manual 25,000 miles - Excellent !! With this Belkin product, there is a nice line-out available on the power plug. (The black hole in the picture.) Plug it in to the outlet right next to the AUX jack, and then use an extremely short 3.5mm cable to connect the audio.
So, just one cable to your iPod's dock connector... which charges your iPod and connects the audio. No mess. You can, of course, hide everything if you want to perform some surgery.
There are other products that offer line-out via dock connector, too...

Grommet is spot on.. the Belkin unit he shows - a 3.5mm to 3.5mm stereo jack cable (though I couldn't find a short one) and the Belkin cup holder iPOD holder is what works for me into the AUX input. Minimum of trailing wires and great sound.
No problems, no issues, and the whole lot comes out easily if need be.

the left hand one. (Right is to plug into Home system with phono input)

I also use the Belkin product that Grommet mentioned. Got mine from Staples of all places. It also has teh advantage of boosting the sound from th eipod meaning that the IPOD volume is the same as other media formats such as radio and CD.
I found this to be a problem when using ipod and Sat Nav as the kind lady would come on very loud, With the Belkin adapter this is eliminated.

I found a very short 3.5mm jack lead for this and it works a treat.
