They planned to raise the annual roadtax with 15% for cars without a 'factory fitted' DPF.
Luckily the tax authorities are a shambles so they don't manage to implement it....
Hope it blows over..

I didn’t realize petrol theft was a thing in U.K.? Someone wrote here that people steal diesel from farms but from cars...? I thought that happened only in places like Africa and like really Eastern Europe. In the more entrepreneurial circles in former USSR it was also a thing...
Here fuel theft doesn’t really make the news while stuff like card skimming at unattended stations does so I assume it doesn’t really exist.

Petrol theft maybe not. Diesel fuel theft is a growing buisiness. I’ve had my work van “drilled” at least 3 times this year ! Jarrod

Re: Confused, do I join the club or not? |

TopSod wrote:Hi all,
I’m looking at getting myself a D3 but i’m just confused to bits as to whether I should or not, and if I do, which year?
I’ve read so many conflicting stories of ‘steer clear of this year’ to ‘any year is fine’ to ‘buy pre 07’ to blah blah.
Can anyone clarify for me if there are certain years I should steer clear of or is it just the usual case of buy on condition and history?
Thanks
I love my old bus, i've had her since new and she is mechanically well looked after and stupidly reliable, but she is nearly 14 years old and needs constant fettling. An 07 is nearly 12 years old. Personally, unless you really need one then I wouldn't buy an old one. If you still decide you do then its history is paramount. Lots of D3 are being passed on because they are just getting too expensive to repair or maintain. Go in with your eyes wide open and be prepared to spend big sums to bring it up to spec.
Also, bear in mind the new Low Emission Zones being rolled out. These will exclude most D3/4s unless they are Euro 6. The longevity of these cars is pretty short. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

What I fail to understand is, that the UK has always been great in ' small garage engineering '; you have [had?] brilliant engineers. With the shear numbers of D3/D4 about in the UK, someone must be able to work out a great & simple idea [ most brliiant idea's are in principal simple ], to modify the D3/D4 into
a 'mule' for a new power unit. If anything can 'carry the load' of 'harbour the volume' it has to be a Discovery [ or a Transit van.. ].
