Concerned about a D3 sellout.......
So, the site has hit 2000 registered users and I'm still a newbie with only a couple of months under my belt......
But....... With the site now in the media (and perhaps more to come) how can we protect it from being sold out (not saying that you would Martin, but Money does strange things to folk.....) like Friends Re-United was.
I don't want adverts (other than the carefully selected and screened/authorised ones) I don't want to look at job offers, I don't want only one dealers advice etc etc etc All of which could be concerns if it gets too successful perhaps.
I like it the way it is....
Am I just being paranoid or is there a 'share scheme' we could invest a small amount into?
Sorry Martin, don't think this is targetting you as an individual, but I think this is a great site and I want to make sure it's protected Bodsys Brake Bible

The site is wholly owned by Martin and to that end he can do with it as he see's fit...I would recommend that all members and visitors recognise that site doesn't fund itself by pennies from heaven

I agree with DG, dig in deep everybody, bandwith isnt cheap.
The site is far more use than spending £4 a month on 1 of the half a dozen LR mags that are aimed at Defender and Disco 1,2 owners15 3.0 RRS HSE - Silver
05 2.7TDV6 S AUTO Silver - Retro-fitted Leather.

I agree and I've done so & will undoubtedly do so again before my tenure has expired
In relation to Magazines, yes this form of interactive magazine is by far the most exhaustive resource and includes far more that LRO or LRE or 4x4owner or any other Mag
Just wondered if there was some other way to protect the site?

Thanks for the concern Bodsy
Don't worry - DISCO3 isn't going to be going anywhere - I feel that there's too much that I still want to do with it for that. It's also very uncommon for sites such as this (which, on MySpace/Friends Reunited/YouTube scales, is tiny) to be purchased.
The most important feature is the 2000 members who make up DISCO3 and have helped it grow over the last 2 and a bit years. These members have made DISCO3 the helpful, vibrant and interesting resource it is now, and hopefully will continue to be for some time.
Anyway, who'd want to buy up this place? In all seriousness, DISCO3 is by no means unique on the web, but is amongst LR sites. I expect that the site would only really appeal to a fairly small set of Land Rover oriented companies, but I'm not certain how DISCO3 would fit in with their profiles..06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
Any issues with the site let me know!

Dunno, the site might draw interest from brewing companies as well I'm not so good at giving advice...may I offer you a sarcastic comment instead?

It is to us Martin. Brute force and ignorance, the D3 does the rest.

DISCO3 as a "fleet buyer"??
Martin has done a brilliant job with this site and any eventual rewards are surely his.
But talking of rewards, here's an idea. With 2000 of us, could we formalise a "group" buy system and negotiate a group discounts with LR and other suppliers, e.g. tyres, accessories, etc etc???
It could even stretch to new car buys -- if enough of us at any time were looking to change up/buy new model, then would a friendly LR dealership all give us a sweet deal?
This could work effectively at a point as low as 5-10 vehicles. It would almost make DISCO3 a "fleet buyer."
So, Martin, a special "group buy" field where people could pitch their requirements which, when it hit critical mass, we could get LR et al to make a bid for our needs.
A sort of reverse Ebay? This, in my view, is better for all of us than any suggested "shareholder scheme."
As I will probably upgrade my 25 month old D3 at some point this year, would be very interest in views on this...

Thats sort of what the advertisers and sponsors do already. I am sure they can see the benefit of 2000 + users, and thats why they pay to advertise.
Any other LR related business could do the same I am sure, and Martin would be glad to receive their contribution.
I am sure all the current sponsors either openly advertise, or would do an extra bit for DISCO3 forum users. So yes, we do all win.

DiscoDad, I can understand your gut movement and your man boobs bouncing, but aren't you being a bit ambitious with the hugely excessive bounce in your loin cloth
