Computer says not possible!

Don't know whether posting is going to help but I have my Discovery and Defender insured with A-Plan and I can't get my renewal letter "permitted use" text corrected. The bottom line is I have now been told that this is down to a computer error and can't it be rectified but my policy wording will be ok if I renew.

At present it says: -

Use for social, domestic and pleasure purposes and in connection with the business or profession of the policyholder.Use by the spouse or civil partner of the policyholder in connection with their business or profession is also permitted provided they are entitled to drive under this policy.Use for Social Domestic and Pleasure purposes but excluding travelling to and from the users place of business.

Am I the only one that thinks the two sentences contradict each other insomuch as I can use it for my business but I can't use it to get to my place of business in order to use it? The A-Class office thinks this wording is correct if little unclear?

Maybe I am overthinking it?

Is that the wording on your renewal letter or the actual Insurance Certificate?

Policy wordings don't normally show the use.

I think you have to view each sentence as seperate wording ie.

1. Use for social, domestic and pleasure purposes and in connection with the business or profession of the policyholder.

2. Use by the spouse or civil partner of the policyholder in connection with their business or profession is also permitted provided they are entitled to drive under this policy.

3. Domestic and Pleasure purposes but excluding travelling to and from the users place of business (this part does seem to suggest that they don't cover commuting which is very strange given that you have business use!).

But, yes, it's not worded very well.. my policy wording (also through A-Plan) just says "covered other than the exclusions listed below" which is a lot simpler...

They say the policy/ certificate wording includes business but I don’t get that until I accept the renewal.

It’s not insurmountable but in this day and age when insurers have been know to look carefully at wording before paying out there is really no excuse for it not to be right.

The irony here is that the wording on last years renewal letter was spot on.

Rant mode off!

Hi

Can you pm me your name/postcode so I can see which insurer this is?

As a broker we issue the certificates templated by the insurers so we'd need to flag it to them to make an adjustment on their wording if it isn't correct.

Carlie

(Also, sorry I only just saw this post as for some reason didn't get a notification)

Update - insurers are aware and fixing, for the time being a temporary fix is in place for correct wording to be shown.
