Completely stumped! Discovery 4 Gearbox Fault

Hi All,

Hoping someone out there might be able to help me with a major problem on my Discovery 4 L319 (2013) which I'm unable to figure out the issue and has stumped me!.

I bought the Discovery 4 as a Cat S from Copart but fortunately the chassis was straight and only the two front body mounts and inner wings were damaged which I replaced with cuts from another vehicle. I replaced all the other broken parts (bumper, rad pack, headlights etc) and got the vehicle fully running with no errors being reported from my IID tool. Got it MOT'd, taxed etc and had been driving around gently as I built up confidence in its reliability etc.

I decided to go on a longer journey to a nearby Machine Mart in Gloucester but disaster struck on the way home and I broke down (AA took 7 hours to recover me but that's another story).

The issue was that my rotary gear selector decided to go into Park and would not allow me to select anything other than P. The AA patrol man said that it was a common fault and that a solenoid in the selector breaks. I did some research a few days after the breakdown and was advised to send the selector off to ecutesting.com which I did, was advised there was a fault, they fixed it and returned it to me. I plugged the unit back in but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.

I've run a scan using my IID tool and have got the following faults;

I've tried looking up a couple of the faults on Google but seem to be going round in circles.

Currently there are no lights to indicate what gear the selector is in and I'm unable to turn the dial. The engine runs absolutely fine but there also appears to be a problem with the Parking Brake.

Can anyone please help as I'm somewhat stumped and not sure what to do next!!

Thanks in advance.

Matt

I would suggest removing the unit (easy to do) and send it to Autotronics who will replace the faulty part of the selector and send it back to you. Takes about 4 days for a turnaround….

1. Check TCM Fuse and Power Supply
• Confirm TCM is receiving battery power and ground.
2. Inspect Gear Selector Module Wiring
• Especially for shorts to power or open circuits (related to P084F).
3. Check for Water Ingress
• Behind the battery tray, around the gearbox harness, and inside the cabin near the shifter.
4. Disconnect and Reconnect TCM Connector
• Clean pins, reseat, and clear codes to see if communication resumes.
5. If no fix: TCM testing or replacement likely needed
• A software reload or replacement and programming via SDD or equivalent may be required.
