Complete oil loss from engine ... do I fear the worst
Hi all bear with me I'll get ther in the end
Nipped out to the local vets last nite to pick up some stuff for the beast only to be told I need to bring him to be weighed as the stuff required was only available if they weighed the dog first ( by law apparently) so off I went home ..... picked up said beast..... flew back up parked up no issues all good
BUT on coming back out to the car I noticed a huge pool of oil steaming out from the bottom of the engine Bay Area, not sure if it was engine of gear box I checked the dip stick.... and to my horror not a drop to be seen
Rang my mechanic who came and collected me and dropped me home before recovering the car later..... this is when I noticed the constant oil marking/lines/drips on the road all the way back to mine, it turned out that When I left to go and collect the pooch I had started to loose the oil so I've drove just under 4 miles with the engine loosing oil
I just hoping that there was just enough left in the bottom end before I turned it off
He's not had a chance to look at it today so I'm still preparing for the worst
Anyone else had this ??

Not with the Discovery but my K series 1.8 VVC engine MG TF, did 200 miles to Milton Keynes stopped at the services to fill up just as I left to come home walked round the back to see the back of the car looked damp, not damp but oil!!
Oil cooler line had given way, oil too low to show on the dipstick and I had just driven 5 miles from cold, feared the worse, however, repaired the lines and she now seems fine.==================================

Im hoping for this type of luck as I heard a small click/clunk type noise when I drove down off the kerb and I'm guessing this was the start of the flood

When a similar thing happened to me it was the front crankshaft oil seal. No noise at all, total silence. I was lucky that it happened just as I was turning into my destination's driveway; trail of oil on the road for 50 yards or so.Land Rover 80" station wagon (1949)

You could be lucky, you may not be.
Richard, Rnclayton on here had a catastrophic loss of oil on his TDV6 as a result of a seal failure on the oil filter housing. In the end he needed an engine rebuild.

I'm even more worried now after reading through that thread
And here was me thinking the lack of oil light on the dash was a good sign

Update so far
Mechanic has pulled the bottom plates off filled her with oil and fired up with no issues and sounded ok but then dumped all the oil out again ..... turns out it's the crank shaft oil seal so sort of happy with that but now I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on the oil pump
I'm not sure if mine is the original (that could go pop at any time) or if it's a replacement pump
The only number we can see on the pump is 151156

Are these items you can supply ? I have an account with europarts (obviously find myself there most weeks since I bought this car) so could possibly get the seal from there but would rather have a one that's tried and tested so to speak
Also need a new belt and tensioner kit what make would you recommend
Thanks in advance
