I opted out and still get a fuel card 8) 8)

After the allowance, mileage tax relief and the saving in tax I was paying the tax man, I am no better or worse off than when I had a mondeo ST220 estate as a company car. Except I have a 45K car nowrather than a 24K car, and I own it Very Happy

Its my company, but I still claim 40p per mile for 10000, then 25p per mile for the rest tax free. You can just about run the D3 on that, but the purchase/depreciation is out of pocket. Its worth it though.

Mine is mine, bought and paid for, all the costs of fuel and insurance and depreciation and maintenance are all mine too!
The only plus point I can see is I love it more than any car I've ever had before.
Seems good value to me.

I was in the exactly the same situation. I've had various vans, but last one being a T5 174 LWB (excellent van)...but then watched my wife have the RRS all day. So I sold both vehicles and got two new replacements. I now have a D3 for work and she has a Mini Cooper Convertible, which cost the same as the T5 van. The D3 costs hell of a lot more to run than the T5 though and of course you can't claim the VAT back on the purchase price.
And your customers think you're charging too much when you pull up in a D3, whereas before they would comment on "nice van". Now they say "is that yours Shocked "

In 10 months, the D3 has done 18,000 miles and the Mini has done only 3,000 miles. Our motoring costs have gone through the roof!

All mine, privately owned. Business miles result in about £4000 of expenses claims of which around £2000 goes the treasury in income tax. The government should wake up because if I go green I’ll get to keep most of it and spend it on more holidays in the USA producing more gases. All this and the cows will still emit sufficient gases to send us in to the new ice age. A new ice age, fantastic get the D3 Whistle

48 days to go.......

current D2 is on a company scheme - however, when it came to doing the sums for the D3 - just had to opt out of the scheme and take the money. I will end up paying less per month for the D3 than I am currently for the D2 - better discount from dealer, better interest rate, better insurance, etc. - allround better....

...oh yeah, and its mine, all mine!!!!

Climb in here Joe we'll soon be flying,

United States 2006 LR3 4.4 V8 HSE Auto Buckingham BlueLR3

Very Happy It's a company car. In fact the Co subsidised me to the tune of $8K to buy me out of my old car lease for the LR3. Turns out there are special tax deductions for a business vehicle with a GVWR of 6000 lbs or more, and the LR3 qualifies!! 8)

BTW the US is a great country!!! There are also special tax deductions for a Hybrid car as well!!!.....but who would want one of those? Confused

Go Figure. We can get it coming and going............... Very Happy

Enjoy your Discoverys/LR3s 8)

hmmm....you're all a bunch of high flyers here (or so it seems). I'm just a contract tradesman who owns the whole lot (when the wife lets me), missus uses it to go to work and I dirty it after hours Very Happy
and then I get the pleasure of cleaning it too

Mine is Mine
I use it for my business and claim as Gareth.
You do know that you can also claim VAT back at .0149p per mile???
