| Common causes of rattles in rear of D3's? |

I've just purchased a 56 plate D3 XS 
All fine except a rattle from rear of the car over anything but a perfectly flat surface. Its not loose trim, seats, jack etc as all have been removed/played with to eliminate them. However it does sound like something might be loose somewhere under the floor or trim rather than something under the car.
Are there any common?recurring causes of rattles in the rear to help me try and locate it before I take it to bits!?

Row 2 seat backs not fully home................or the seatbelt catches are rattling, just plug the belts in when not in use.

I get a slight rattle from my rear OS seat.
When a kids in the back or the backrest is folded down it's ok.
Otherwise it sounds like 2 knitting needles clicking together.
It's annoying as I've never been able to trace what it exactly is.
 I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

Also have a 56 plate D3 HSE which over the past 6 months has developed a similar rattle / clicking which also eminates from the rear OS seat behind driver. If it's occupied the sound disappears but as Ron described it, it sounds like knitting needles clicking together. It's very irritating on longer B road journeys ... so much so that I've once asked SWMBO to move to the back seat. Won't do that again ... she didn't talk to me for a week. Not quite the OS rear, but i know the middle seat has two metal rods very close to one another and they're just about the diameter of knitting needles. If you look in and under the front of the center seat you should see them.  ATB

often the 'rattle in the back' can be sorted by greasing the spring loaded closing buffers on the top tailgate, there was a service action for it about four years ago but I can't be bothered to remember what it is now....
it's always worth a try? and theeeeennn......???

Well had five kids in the back 2 rows and it didn't rattle.
So next weekend's job is to get a couple of kids to move around the seats and track it down. Tony

Of all the issues I've had with my D3, this is the one that keeps me from having 'permagrin'. Anything but totally smooth brand new asphalt causes a bevy of clunks, creaks, jumbles and noises to emit from the rear of my D3. It is beyond annoying. Common culprits for rear noise (from my own personal maniacal experience in trying to reduce the noise in my D3): upper tailgate plastic guides, inside lower tailgate lock mechanism loose fitting parts can rattle, lower tailgate strikers improper alignment can cause lower tailgate to jumble, rear plastic side panels with broken clips can sway and clonk, 3rd row seats can make noise if plastic guide is broken, 2nd row seats can jumble and cause noise if articulating joints are broken down, headliner and 2nd and 3rd row sun visors can make noise if headliner clips have fallen out, D piller plastic speaker mounts can cause noise if they hit the glass.
I have had my D3 in for service probably 8 times in the past 2 years for various issues. In each instance I've tried to get dealers to help me solve my rear noise. "I've never heard one this bad", "wow, that rear noise is almost unbearable", "is it always like this"?, "they all make noise but yours is the worst we've heard" - these are the responses I've gotten from 2 different dealers. I've even paid for an extra days worth of service so they could identify and fix my noise. At this point no dealer has been able to solve my issue, they claim to have made adjustments to all the items I mention above but nothing is different. My personal belief is there is some mechanical part loose below my 3rd row seats that is responsible for 80% of my noise. Sounds unbelieveable but this will be the reason I eventually sell my D3. 16 D4 Landmark

Check the plastic trim on the bottom of the doors, the clips on mine were not pushed fully home. A good thump with your fist will engage them properly, just like refitting a door panel.
Also try changing the plastic sprung loaded tailgate catches, they are now made from rubber and do not rattle.
Also check the seatbelt latches on the rear seats as they are a very loose fit onto the anchoring bolt.

I gets a rattle from the rear off side , ive traced it to the seat belt buckle rattling on the plastic trim round the wheel arch area , not sure of a permanent solution unless carrying a passenger permanently.
