Command Shift Problem, switching to manual on it's own !!

I have just purchased a 2016 Discovery 4 HSE, lovely car. But ! yesterday I drove the vehicle off my drive selected D fully AUTO turned right onto the road to find high rev's a small D Gear No1 showing on the instrument panel locked in 1st gear, hit the up paddle 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 held for 3 sec returned to D AUTO no problem for 20 miles stopping and starting. Then again today, it appears that the vehicle is switching into Command Shift Mode all on its own, then OK again for the rest of the journey. Phoned dealer and they said not seen it before, could it be as simple as a faulty paddle switch bringing the manual command shift on ?? many thanks.

Are you sure you're not just catching it as you turn the wheel ? When I first had my D4 I kept catching it at first. It only takes a light touch and can be on the very end of the paddle.

Hi Gary, Many thanks for your reply. Yes after yesterday I did think it was me catching the paddle but again today ! I have only driven it about 300 miles since collecting 3 weeks ago. Does seem strange. I will try to keep my hands away as the paddle is very close to the indicator lever. thanks again fingers crossed. Clive.

When I got my first one with flappy paddles I was forever catching the paddle and putting it in manual but after a week or so I haven't hit it by mistake again. Thumbs Up

Same here. Usually when turning wheel hand nudged paddle. Doesn't happen as often now. Laughing

Yes me too.

Interestingly, my Jag has a setting in the menu to disable command shift in D. When set I have to select Sport mode before they work. A much better idea, because the paddles are very close to other controls.

All the current automatic gearbox Land Rovers have the facility to disable Command Shift in D.

Paddles !!

Thank you all very much for your reply's I seem to think its me and not a fault. My handbook says I should be able to disable the paddles in Drive and make them available in sport mode, but I have looked carefully through all vehicle setup menu and I do not have the option listed, so could this be disabled by a dealer via software ??? and mine is just a year old Nov 2016 I would have though the option would be available. Thanks again everyone for your help.

It's not a user selectable option on any Discovery 4. It may be possible via a software edit by a dealer.

Same here, used to catch them by accident, but you soon get used to it.
