Paul, I think it says a lot about the design of the D3/4, that both you and I could find very comfortable driving positions for long journeys. Thumbs Up

I'm only going by their specs, so not sure ....may be we need a "measure off" event Laughing

For me, but maybe not others, the armrests in the D5 and to a slightly lesser extent the FFRR are uncomfortable to use. So as such are useless.

The quoted max headroom figures are interesting. I have no problem with the headroom in either the D5 or FFRR. The door aperture on the D5 is restrictive for me though. I have to bend and twist a bit more to get in and out of the D5 or I scrape my head Sad

The armrests were useless, never used them in the 10 months I had the car but the centre cubby was fine for me.

That's not a bad idea!

So, let's do some comparisons. Here's a photo taken of "my" D5 in a classic "pulling out at an oblique junction" view. Would someone be kind enough to publish an equivalent shot of the inside of a D4? Especially if it can show the height of the waste line in relation to the base of the rear seat and let's see how they compare Thumbs Up

I don't think that will be necessary Laughing

ETA: I do think the drop down headrests in the D5 are a good idea though, you'd see nowt with them up. Thumbs Up

It would need to be one hell of a junction to need the 3rd row window. There’s one not far from my dealer and I only ever had to use the 2nd row window.

By the magic of vision... I can see your house ...but no junction. Should you really be driving? Confused Wink

I do believe that you completely understood the point I was trying to make, admitted defeat and quickly changed the subject Rolling Eyes

Oddly enough, I’m not talking about the little porthole where a third window might have been fitted, it was more to compare the height of the waistlines of the cars. That’s why the rear seat squab is in view, in order to make any comparison easier.

Hopefully a comparable photo will be along soon...

is this thread still a thing? Shocked
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Here’s a pic I took earlier, similar(ish) angle to the photo RedMerle posted.

In conclusion, the D3/4 has a lower waistline, more glass and better visibility all round than any of the current LR models.

I’m not saying that’s better or safer, that’s for you to decide. Personally, I prefer it in a large 4X4, especially when driving off road and at the tight junctions on the lanes I regularly drive.

Mods: You might as well close this thread. Smile

I think your right about the waistline but "command driving position" has only ever meant a forward view to me..not a pretend 1 in a million junction near RMs house Wink ..sadly ..for all of the retro love of the D3/4 ....even from me...it makes not a jot of difference tbh ... after driving a D5 for 2 months these little things others seemingly have agonising nightmares over just don't enter my mind...I feel no detriment. I just enjoy it for what it is Very Happy Thumbs Up
