Code reader help please !
Can anyone recommend a decent quality code reader that will read the codes from my 08.5MY D3.
I have tried a couple of code readers which work fine with other CAN BUS cars but won't read or even sync with my D3 or my mates D3 which is also 08.5 MY
A link to a known good reader would be great, preferably one that displays a text interpretation of the code and not just the code itself.
Thanks
Happy Christmas to one and all.

Simonsi,
Surly its supposed to be OBD compatible ??
Bex,
Thanks but not really what I was looking for. I really want a workshop tool rather than something to fit in the car..

Similar will be available in the UK, or on Amazon or FleaBay.
It's been great for reading and resetting codes on MINI (BMW), VW, Porsche etc - and my buddy used it on his Audi and Jeep.
It translates the 'common' codes into English - then displays the specific vehicle codes so you can go look them up and do your diagnosis. I've used it to reset error codes and the CEL with no issues.
Will be Monday before I get a chance to test with the LR3 - but I'll post results here.08 LR3 SE V8 - 02 D2 SE7 V8

Thanks, that looks very similar to the one I have that seems to work on everything except the D3.
I will be very interested to see if it works for you. My one gets to the bit where it scans for the correct protocol, tries them all and then gives up.
Thanks for your assistance..

I know on other vehicles the ignition has to be in the 'correct position' for the scan to work - you tried the ignition in various positions when you're connecting the OBDII scanner?08 LR3 SE V8 - 02 D2 SE7 V8

Yes. With the scanner I have you normally connect with the ign off, turn on the scanner, select the car make, turn ign on, it searches for the correct protocol and connects, then you press scan (if that's what you want to do)
I have tried just about every combination of ign switch positions and 'land rover' as well as 'generic' for the manufacturer, all to no avail. .

I've assumed all this time that it would work - but never had to use it on the LR3.....08 LR3 SE V8 - 02 D2 SE7 V8

Well I hope there aren't any at the moment as I don't have any faults (touch wood)
But I would like to be able to read them if I get any faults in the future as an aid to diagnostics and repair !
Can't think of much else to do with them
I think of a working code reader as being as important as a decent timing light was a few years ago..

I use one of these http://www.ukobd.co.uk/gstore/store/g_view...EAod8mfDDQ on my Puma Defender and it does what I need it to do, which is only read and clear. The 90 keeps kicking out a spurious reading relating to the air flow as I have an ITG filter fitted. I have never tried it on the D3, just assumed it would work, the people who sell them are based in Newent so I phoned and had a long talk with them before I commited and they assured me it would work with both LR cars.D4 HSE Luxury SDV6,

I was really looking for a 'workshop' type tool rather than a in car 'gauge' but it looks like I may have to accept this sort.
I just can't believe that a modern car doesn't conform to any 'normal' OBD standard ?.
