Clutch slippage?

I've noticed the last couple of times out in the Disco, that the clutch appears to be slipping when the engine is cold, but is OK when warm. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might actually be, as I don't think the clutch is going, but I might be wrong? Not being entirely mechanically aware of the issues of complicated 4 wheel drives, I'm not sure what to make of it.

By "slipping " do you mean the engine revs go higher by themselfs when say for insatnce going up hill or under heavy load?

We live in a pretty flat area, but basically as you try to pull away for the first time the engine revs high as if the clutch wasn't biting, and after a few hundred yards it improves. Its in its last 6 months of warranty and going in for another long standing matter again next Tuesday. (EPB doesn't always work and car will continue to roll when handbrake used, but only about every 10th or so time its applied - has proved a hard one to get them to fix)

Just start saving, from a dealer it's around £400 just to remove the gearbox to find out what the problem is! My release bearing or spring is making a funny noise but it'll just need to wait for now! Big Cry Big Cry

Dixie, your profile shows that you have an Auto. No clutch.

If the revs climb quickly when you step on the accelerator, then it's working properly - it's called kickdown.

Edit - when cold, the gearbox will hold a lower gear. This appears to be more apparent when the FBH is broken. Does your FBH work?

Hi guys
Yes it's auto - what's an FBH - I am getting worried now - is this a big job breaking out - I have 6 months of warranty remaining so whatever it is I am hoping that LR will sort it out - but as with my EPB if its something a little odd, then they seem to have a problem sorting it out.

Its a fuel burning heater. Under the bonnet at the front on the right as you look at it, there is a square box with a corrugated hose coming out of it and feeding into a stainless box and a pipe going down, it burns fuel if it is below 6 degrees C ext temp and the engine is cold, helps to heat the coolant up. If you look under the car in front of the near side wheel you should see a silver pipe hanging down, which when cold and the car is running you should see smoke and a parafin like smell. If it doesn't then there is heeps on here about it.
