Clunk when selecting Reverse Gear

I have an 06 Disco with one of those adaptive auto transmission box type thingys and found that if I am parked facing uphill and then move gear from P to R (or through R to D), there is a heavy clunk as the gear is selected.
The dealer had not heard of this before and suggested I contact you folks at DISCO3 quote "we've used them ourselves before!".

So, should I be worried?

Are you releasing (or not using) the park brake? If you have the weight of the vehicle resting against the parking pawl in the auto gearbox, it will clunk when you take it out.

I suggest you always apply the park brake before selecting P on the gearbox. And always select D or R before releasing the PB, or even use the excellent drive away release.

Yeah, that's normal. It's sometimes quite an alarming "clunk". Do as Gareth has advised & it'll be fine.
Problem is I often forget!
