Clicking from centre console
Right I have searched but could not find my particular issue, I have a continual clicking sound coming from the centre console near gear changer, I understand this is the solenoid activated by the brake pedal but mine only stops clicking if I press the brake ever so slightly, and if I leave the vehicle ticking over foot off the brake pedal the brake lights flicker on and off.
I assumed the brake light switch so replaced but still have the clicking sound and flickering brake lights.
Any Thoughts?
Sounds like the brake pedal switch needs setting properly so it's either on or off. I think the pedal may not have returned and is just resting on the switch.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

I thought that too but pedal will not come up any further up and would be unlikely to have the same issue with new brake light switch, and I would not of thought that the old switch would suddenly become unseated.
Is there any movement upwards on the pedal if you lift it with your hand? I know that some brake pedal switches come unset and when you fit them and operate the brakes the first time it sets their position. I think Bodsy might be best placed to help you.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

No movement on pedal, and I made sure I did not move pedal when I fitted the new switch I will take another look at the switch tomorrow but would the switch become unseated in normal use?
Oh and I have had an issue with cruise control but I am assuming this is all part of the same prob eg:cruise control thinks brake pedal is being pressed.

hi
hope u don’t mind me posting this Tiger recovery
sounds like the interlock solonoid that making the noise , stops u trying to start the landy in gear , but know that’s of course linked into the brake pedal switch
could greasing up the interlock shaft possibly work or maybe there’s a bad connection between the brake pedal switch and interlock solonoid and can’t get a proper signal ??
but know there’s far more experienced people here , have u got access to a code reader

You can check whether its the pedal/switch by taking switch off but keep it connected and see if noise disappears, To start car press the switch in.
Have you had a brake job done as there maybe air in system stopping the pedal coming all the way out

Hi,
I did have rear brake pipes replaced about 3 months ago but this issue only started last week, been out to look at it today and brake pedal comes all the way back up, so its not the pedal not returning fully, I have taken the brake light switch out again to check that its seated correctly and it is, to be honest it seems that the switch is too sensitive if that makes sense, you only have to touch the pedal and it activates the switch, its like the pedal is holding the plunger on the switch right at the very point where its on or off.

That should not be the case, have you still got the old one to compare it to, might be the wrong one

I'm not sure on the D3, but on other cars you hold the pedal down, and pull the switch plunger out (it clicks on a ratchet) and then you let the pedal up and it self adjusts.
Try pulling the spare one, or search on here for instructions
