Clean the Cloth or go for leather?- That is the question |
|
Hi folks
since my D3 is a daily driver for the family ( 4 girls: Mrs and 3 little girls ) the alpaca cloth interior looks mainwhile very ugly. Although everybody is taking care of it and I have cleaned the interior several times by removing the spots from the seats meanwhile they look very bad ). I asked a prof. car cleaner who told me that in this case the only thing would be to wash the seat covers which would mean they have to be removed and put into the washing machine. I am not sure if it is worth the work to remove the covers and maybe shrink them to the size fitting the kid´s play car and/or to see that the spots are still there or if it is better to go for a set of leather seat covers or even leather seats out of another D3
I would like to ask you for your opinion about this.
Thanks
Cheers

Sorry to hijack your thread Hedgehog but it is so close to the thread I was going to start this morning it seems to make sense.
I too have material (7 seater S) and due to messy kids am considering switching to leather (grey) probably only 1st 2 rows. Should I go for genuine LR and if so at what cost or are the any independants seat cover suppliers that are worth looking at and at what cost ?
Or should I be looking at replacing the whole seats with leather ones from a second hand LR?
cheers

I have just had a quote to recover my seats in leather, came in at £1200+vat for seven seats, or £1100 + for 5.
Company called Tim-Technic. Have seen some of their work and in my opinion better quality than factory fit, but have also seen Seat Surgeon refurb in a Range Rover which was superb but havent plucked up courage to get a price off them yet!
Im pretty sure some-one on here has recovered their own seats with L-R covers but not sure I would have the patience for that

Cheapest option would be a set of decent seat covers - I think Exmoor Trim do a really nice tough canvas set? 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +
2022 Tesla Model Y LR... almost Carpathian Grey

You could always get them cleaned professionally and have a sealant applied to them to stop absorption of liquids and dirt using something like nanolex fabric sealant.

303 aerospace fabric guard is also very good.

Thanks for all the input so far.
Got my D3 second hand from a couple that obviously transported wet labradors a lot and despite having valeted and a lot of carpet vaxing and oust still can't completely shift the scent of wet dog so am keen to go the leather route.

We've got Premier leather seats and were worried about unintentionally damaging them and ordered Exmoor Trims black nylon seat covers. They are a good fit, but sadly had 1 x incorrect headrest cover in front seat set. Purchased through John Craddock, but given up with them as they are unable to return my call. Exmoor Trim however were on the ball straight away and sending me a replacement. No fitting instructions come either.

Thanks for the interest in my problem and the very helpful answers. I think I will go for the leather and will contact the companies NJF and Tom W have mentioned for a quote.
Thank you very much for your fast support

This is my thread I posted having had my XS with cloth recovered in leather.
I remain very pleased indeed with the result. Since having it done my son has delivered some impressive projectile vomits in the back and the leather looks as good as on day one.
I'd do it again at the drop of a hat. They guys I used in Ipswich were extremely professional. PAGODA

I've just done a deal with Trim-starr (SE based and will pick up) - car goes in on Friday - I'll take before and after piccies and post when its done by next weekend - £1,230 + the dreaded.
Looking forward to it
