Chipping, TorqTune mods and High Pressure Diesel Pumps? |
|
My D3 TDV6 has just been released from ICU after a week. New High Pressure Diesel pump fitted after failure. (not low pressure pump as was originally thought)
Now I was wondering if there could be any connection between this and the TorqTune done on it 6 months ago...

In 80,000 km I can count on one hand when I did not use low sulpher diesel. Even in Lesotho I had enough low suplher Diesel with me to carry me through to the next re-fuel.

Maybe you should have gone for Turbo Chip instead (ducking)
Seriously though , I doubt a remap could be responsible

I've had 2 peugeot diesel cars and both had CR pump failures.....I'm sure I read somewhere that the TDV6 is also a peugeot engine....maybe that's the connection

Afraid so....the TDV6 is made by Ford/PSA......it just sounds so 'common' when you call it a Peugeot engine
If you're really feeling particularly nasty you could say it was 'almost' built by Citröen. 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

Stu will give us the finer details but I think it's safer to say made by Ford and used in Pugs The End

Now I was wondering if there could be any connection between this and the TorqTune done on it 6 months ago... Very unlikely, most HP pump failures are due to misfuelling or high ethanol content in the fuel causing lack of lubrication, I know of several HP pumps that have been replaced due to incorrect plumbing of the fuel filter allowing debris to enter the pump. Torq-Tune does not increase the fuel rail pressure as much as some other remaps and certainly nowhere near that of some of the more basic plug-in boxes although boost in fuel rail pressure would not, in itself, cause failure of the pump. Given the precise manufacturing and operating tolerances, it's more likely to be an latent defect than any outside influence or contamination that caused the failure.

I agree wholehartedly with what 10FC said.
Plus, the engine would not ever be working at its full potential up here at 1500-2000m.
I think more likely crap fuel. We have very little in the way of quality control, even in SA, and even less in the rest of Africa. Sometimes whats displayed on the pump isn't whats in the tank, and its very difficult to prove till you get the symptoms thousands of kays later.
The TDV6 somehow doesn't exhibit the same reaction as my TD5 did - you would hardly even be able to get mobile if you had a tank of junk in the TD5, but in the TDV6 you don't notice so much. I have had some dubious fuel in Botswana, Namibia and Angola, and the performance is still fine, but the fuel filter got blocked very quickly.
But, if you want to remove the tune, thats no problem either. Part of the service
