to chip or not to chip ... that is the question !!
Firstly happy New Year to you all and thank you for your input over last couple of months, a great forum ..... Now to the question ....having read various questions and answers I'm no wiser, there seems to be general consensous that it is the way to go but which chip or re-map to go for ???? I'm in sunny (HA HA) Aberdeenshire if that should make any differance for local reccomendations. Thanks in advance Chas
I reinstalled the standard map for a trip to the dealers just before Christmas, and didn't reinstall the tuned map for ten days or so.
Even SWMBO said "What's wrong with the car - it's very sluggish !"
During this time fuel consumption was about 2 mpg worse than when running with the remap - mesured brim to brim over 3 fills.

some of the cheap piggyback boxes only fool the ecu telling the engine is not getting enough fuel therfore putting more fuel in to the engine giving more power,a remap box would be better as it changes a lot more things, not that i know very much about it,i run one of pete bells remap boxes to and am very impressed with it

a remap makes a big difference.
have a look at the ones from the site sponsors on this site.
My D3 has been done since almost new and it is well worht it, dont delay !!!
if you are worried about engine etc, Ive done 128K miles and no issues.
I woudl get the D4 done as soon as there is a proper remap available..Duncan

my new year present to myself is going to be a remap... currently trying to decide between the BAS interface and the Alive Tuning.
in my view the BAS unit probably has more installations and hence a better bet but the AT unit is a lower price and they do have a very good track record... I'm not sure how much difference there is in real life though. I did PM Alive Tuning a couple of days ago for more information but am still waiting for a reply... Also Gone : MY14 D4 SDV6 HSE : Barolo Black + Almond
Sadly Gone : MY08 D3 TDV6 HSE : Stornoway + Alpaca + Privacy + BAS Remap

I have just installed Pete's BAS box. For me it was very important to be able to switch back to the original map, which you can with his interface.
It was very easy to upload (providing that you have a 32 bit PC). There is a noticeable increase in power - the D3 used to really stuggle with a steep hill near home in 2nd gear, now it goes like a train.
Mine went in for warranty work yesterday so changed back to the original map....what a difference you really notice the lack of torque and drivability...

Have that on my car and TurboChip on SWMBO's. Both excellent and puts the in driving.

I've got the alive tunning on mine, when she is not playing up she pulls like a train.
I used to drive in sports mode all the time before the re-map, now I only use it every now and again.
I know Gary & the team only started back last week, so may be wading thier way through emails.
Might be best to give them a call, I am up thier on Tuesday for a de-cap pipe to be fitted, I will mention it to them.
was it a PM from the site or one to the info@td5alive address?d4 HSE in Corris Grey with Black options pack
D3 with the following
Alive Tuning EGR blanking kit
Alive Tuning Re-map
Alive Atrics console
Samco intercooler hoses (from Alive Tuning)
Alive Tuning De-Cat pipe, lovely tone!
Retrofit OEM Hybrid TV tuner

I wonder if there is actually much, if any, difference between the various remaps?
If we accept that a remap in general improves the driving experience, I wonder how many people could actually tell the difference between the main offerings?
